An expansive and multifaceted storm is expected to track across the central and eastern United States this week and produce a plethora of impacts, including accumulating snow and hazardous ice.

Up to a foot of snow is anticipated to fall from northeastern Kansas to the thumb of Michigan, including the major metropolitan area of Chicago, from Wednesday through Thursday.

The exact track and snow amount remains uncertain.

Chicago area under winter storm warning. 4-7 inches of snow expected according to the ABC affiliate

It will start as rain and then transition to snow as temperatures fall. An inch and a half of rain is possible.

This system will affect a wide area of the Midwest.

We haven't had a proper snow since late December in my town, and normally we get 100 inches of snow a year. Each year seems to oscillate wildly, I recall 2019 and 2021 being stupidly cold and wet; with back-to-back snowstorms, and 2017/2018 and 2020 and now this year being bone dry and record warm.

UK weather: Storms Dudley and Eunice set to collide as Met Office issues 'danger to life' warning

Forecasters predict 90mph winds, downpours and snow on high ground - which will cause transport disruption and dangerous seas.

Can any UK people explain what a danger to life warning is? We don't have that here.

By Met Office definitions, "danger to life" generally means a red warning, which is the most serious warning they can issue. Generally speaking, these are rare, because the likelihood of disruption and the strength of the weather's impact have to both be maxed out for these warnings.

Yellow officially just means "Be Aware", and Amber means "Be Prepared". Not necessarily a danger to life, but potentially serious in and of themselves.

At least 44 were killed and hundreds of others left displaced by the flooding and landslides in Petrópolis after heavy rain struck the area.

Petrópolis is a city and a large tourist area located in a mountainous region about 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the north of Rio de Janeiro. The city had more rain in one afternoon than the historical average for all February

Flooding also caused two dams to burst and the displacement of an estimated 62,800 people, state officials say.

The wind is blowing so hard here that my windchimes have been chiming. Which would not be notable, except that the clapper came out of them last winter, and I haven't fixed it because the string is so dry-rotted that I can't do anything with it. So, it's gusting hard enough to bang the actual chimes into each other.

We have a bit of a storm going...not much more than a gale really, 8 beaufort and heavy rains. Hopefully the harbor will hold and no floodings today.

On a slightly off topic note, I find it funny that Weather is a stat in this game. Everything about it is also funny. First, it is measured in Meters of Sunlight, which, by that logic, means that uninhabitable desert would have the best weather in our world. Additionally, the fact that it changes after answering Issues goes against the whole idea of “you can’t control the weather.”

In our world? Well, Kansas City, where I live, it got up to a high of 60* today. The city is expecting snow of 6-9 inches in the next few hours. School is cancelled for tomorrow. We certainly aren’t getting very many “Meters of Sunlight.”

I still remember watching the super cell that tracked over Arkansas and Kentucky back in December. its insane that its been over 2 months since that happened. It was probably the worst tornado the U.S had seen in years.

Now that you mention it... that's a pretty stupid weather metric.

We have strong winds today and mild temps.

That was horrendous. The EF5 which wiped out sections of Joplin MO was in 2011. So maybe going back ten years it was the worst.

Major winter storm moving across Midwest. A "quick burst" of heavy snow is expected to be seen from northern Oklahoma to southern Michigan on Thursday, with snowfall rates greater than 2 inches per hour.

Tornados and heavy rain is likely in the south especially in parts of Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana.

One tornado has been confirmed in Alabama as part of winter storm that brought thunderstorms to a wide area of the state. This same storm brought snow to much of Missouri, Illinois and Michigan.

Damage is being reported west of Birmingham and in the metro area. Thousands are without power.

Yeah well we Floridians laugh in the face of hurricanes but we don't go out on boats. A hurricane is like a grizzly bear in your front yard: it's a fun little change of pace but you don't go out and poke it.
