Political remedy is a non-starter. They're all rightfully afraid that once that seal is broken it'll just be a never end of circle jerk attempts to jail the other or whatever.

The Justice Department, on the other hand...despite Trump treating them like his personal lawyers and they're appointed are independent (don't @me with (generic)your passive cynicism, even under trump and his constant firing and replacing they fought to maintain at least a semblance of independence and in this case it's not like someone's threatening to can them unless they find a way to get Trump in jail, he's in this situation because he put himself there) and they are explicitly the force of law.

But dude has been shady as fuck for decades and fuckall has happened to him. Now he's a former president with a rabid fanbase who think not being able to victimize people makes them the victim. Symbolic really is the harshest realistic expectation.
