A gun can cause actual physical harm. The comic is no worse than other books for children.

Verifiably false, I've never known a child to fear the family dog after reading The Pokey Little Puppy.

I see no reason for section 5 to apply to Maine or Maryland.

You don’t see any reason why section 5 should apply to Maryland?. Absolutely no reason?

That is their right to have closed primaries. That's not voter suppression. Does Maryland have gerrymandering? Absolutely but it hasn't been drawn to suppress minority votes.

Oh, is Maus being read by 5-year-olds. That is rather impressive comprehension.

The book you mentioned is intended for K-3. Meaning at the highest it is intended for 8 year olds. So basically...that is what you where implying.

A better solution would be to go to a voting system where there's not a big incentive for gerrymandering.

The current fixes seem like ineffective bandaid solutions. NY is a great example -- the system they set up to prevent gerrymandering has failed utterly.

And so should partisan primaries.
But it should be consistent. That is the point. Everyone should have to follow the same rules, having one set of rules that only applies to certain states is unconstitutional and a bad idea.

Oof. I've seen some shit arguments before but holy hell. You might need to walk that one off.

Oh you’ll get no disagreement from me on that. I’ve long been supportive of single district PR systems or failing that MMP with IRV

Some kind of proportional representation system for the House. MMPR might be good.

It's never going to happen, but that's what I would do.

Well just because they set it up badly, does not mean it cannot be done better. Especially if it was deliberately set up to fail.

Districts can easily be drawn using mathematical formulas and other objective measures.

That solves the issue. Set out a clear set of objective rules.

Why should someone whose not registered with a party get to chose the nominee of that party?

If you have a history like Alabama yes they should be different. New Jersey shouldn't have to be subject to the same treatment when they have no history of suppressing minority votes.

Also independent commissions can work if they aren’t a convoluted mess like VA and NY. Arizona seems to get on fine with a five member commission. 2 Dems, 2 republicans, and 1 independent chair

For the House seems pretty easy. I see no reason why the house needs to represent states. Why not have it represent ideas instead. So basically some form of proportional voting across the nation, rather than state by state. Since it is 1 person 1 vote there is no need for gerrymandering at that level. Second, get rid of the electoral college. Doing that removes any incentive to gerrymander. The states can be represented somehow in the senate (can never figure out what system I want there).

Ah so you think The giant Peach, a book for children is the same as hello moon, another book for children. Maus is a book for children, that does not mean it can be understood by young children. I read Maus when I was I think 12, or middle school and I know friends who read it in 6th grade, which can be either middle or elementary school. So yes, a book for children.

That would likely require a constitutional amendment. And would mean you no longer have a representative from your area and would have to hope the party picks someone.

Congrats on your law being stuck down then. It’s clear you just want to sweep all the anti-Italian, anti-Irish, anti-everyone else except for WASPs that the north is known for while continuing to point the blame on the south while also ignoring the Midwest and PNW.

I think a single national district of 500 members in the house with 250 senators, each state gets 5 senators each elected by STV, would work well
