Not confirmed yet but according to the live map updates the Ukrainian army has allegedly pushed back the VDV forces occupying the Hostomel airport

Obviously take with a pinch of salt till confirmation comes out. There was a CNN reporter there earlier with the Russians so something might come from them if their reporter is still in the area.

Not now, at least. But Putin does have a habit of periodically rolling the war dice, so to speak, every several years. If Ukraine turns out to be fruitful for him, what's stopping him from casting his eyes on other nation-states in the next several years?

Oh, true enough, I just don't see any other territory that Russia has much interest in. Even naked imperialism has a reason besides wanting to take over everything.

The dynamics of it were different, in my opinion. Pakistan and India were engaged in a brutal, horrific, yet still all too neighborly conflict. Should the US or European powers decide to engage with Russia, it no longer becomes a regional conflict; but a global one.

I myself think that fears of nuclear war are a little unfounded and hysterical, but at the same time, why take the risk?

Chernobyl is 80 miles from Kiev. There's a road that connects the two, it's basically a straight shot into the heart of Ukraine.

Wow, I was REALLY wrong about this. I thought at most they would invade a small piece to bite off which was already largely pro-russian and just try to hold onto that. I was skeptical even that an invasion of any kind would take place, given that Russian state media seemed to be saying the West was trying to trick them into invading.

Never in my wildest dreams did I expect a full scale invasion of the whole of Ukraine! I've traditionally held that would be the dumbest thing Russia could do, but thinking about it ... Is it in for a penny in for a pound? They were already going to get the hell sanctioned out of them for taking even just a single inch, and the west has made it pretty clear they didn't intend to do much beyond sanctions, so like ... What was the remaining incentive not to proceed with the full invasion?

I guess the main concern Russia has right now is going to be protracted, low intensity conflict if they intend to stick around for a while because again ... Not like the West is going to shoot at them.

I'm sort of afraid Ukraine will last for a few days as an organized state, and then it'll be up to individual Ukrainians to basically spray random Russian platoons in ambush attacks. A lot of the really motivated romantic types got assassinated by "Mysterious" drone bombs quite a while ago. How motivated and well armed is the average Ukrainain citizen to spend their life in suicidal ambush tactics like that?

Switzerland resists imposing own sanctions against Russia

Looks like they're still supporting the EU sanctions though, just not adding their own on to that.
