Your comparison is far more far fetched.
But I agree Putin is not is not literally Hitler. That does not matter.
Napoleon and Karl XII were not. Dictatorships often make very bad decisions by their very nature.
Having no checks and balances and being surrounded by yes men clouds even the smartest mind.
And Putin seems quite okay becoming a pariah to the West. Because Beijing will still back him.
Making him only more dangerous.
*Could back him* you have no real idea of knowing what Beijing is planning for their attempt at becoming a world superpowerSpace Squid wrote:I don't know how it is you imagine that the Ukraine would follow in the footsteps of Nazi Germany without in any way resembling the conditions that created Nazi Germany: the Weimar Republic. So I assumed that this must be a part of your argument. Because if you were arguing anything else, that would be ridiculous. I may have given you too much credit.
Do you think that Nazis emerged fully formed out of the earth of countries that have recently lost a war? Like Uruk-hai?
Did Germany Loose a war? Yes
Were the Econmy and Goverment in Shambles? Yes
Was there an Ultra-Nationalist patrty that found a way to take power over a failing goverment? Yes
Now lets look at Ukraine
Is there a Possibility Ukraine will loose this war? A high one
Will their Econmy and Goverment be in shambles should they loose? Yes
Are there groups who seem to show 3rd Reich Tendencies in Ukraine and possibly have a wish to take power? Yes
Which means Facism in Ukraine is totally possible, But not once did I say it was likely.
By this view, Germany absolutely should have become Fascist after WWII, when they lost a war, their economy was in shambles, and there were a lot of Nazi-sympathizers roaming around.
Meanwhile Italy, the original Fascist power (Fascism has an "s" by the way), did not lose a war.
This is not a formula that actually works when you look at history.
