meh, certain generals have lobbied for the possible use of nuclear weapons throughout later wars...especially the Korean war. Good thing Russia by then had a bomb.

I'm certain that wasn't the only consideration in rejecting it's use.

I would have actually preferred them suing the bomb, rather than letting the millions trapped in NK suffer as they do now.

Maybe you should add that list with Detroit and New Orleans...those poor folks are suffering too.

Hardly the same, if you can't understand the difference between being forced to stay in a nation of shit and indoctrinated so severely you have little recourse and being born to have food and clean after shoved into your mouth I suggest you stop posting now.

I sincerely doubt that the NK people would welcome your kind of generosity (mass "compassion" killings). Who are you to decide their fate? You were so quick to protect your own kind but I guess wiping out the NK is nothing to you.

Yes, killing one or two millions of their soldiers and the Chinese would hardly be a massacre compared to the horrors visited upon them by the past 50 years of KIm.

And, lots of laughs at 'protecting my own kind' protecting my own kind would be not getting involved in the squabbles of the inferiors, but rather closing our selves off to the fuckers, let them all rot I say. South Korea owes us bigtime.

The South Koreans aren't stupid enough to allow America to nuke NK anyways (even with that despot Kim in control). They carry the same blood and wouldn't allow some foreigners to dictate the complete destruction of their own kind. As for the South Koreans owing America anything, they've proven themselves when they fought alongside with American troops during the Vietnam war.

Garbage.

The reason why they wouldn't allow the US to nuke NK is because they live in the same freaking region.
Nuking NK would also poison their wells and their soil. And most likely the Chinese soil, as well.

Actually, quite a significant portion of them do regard it as one country, wrongfully divided. The North/South divide is more an artifact of the cold war than anything.

Mostly the younger ones, which is why I said, back in the day... we could have used it. The young people of SK don't realize (somehow) the horrors of the 'communism' of the north.

Russia (not NK/SK)

I like the weather and power. But I dislike the whole USSR/CCCP incident. The threat of nuclear war, and those sold in 1991, will eventually result in the annihilation of the world. But in the short term, it has led to moderate peace because countries are worried about getting nuked.

Sure, now, but we're talking at the height of the Korean war? We had 90% of the peninsula...

They were quite fine with us dictating the everything for long enough.

They fought in Vietnam, huh? I'm sure that totally makes up for ensuring their freedom with thousands of American lives even to this day.

First of all, it wasn't just America who helped South Korea out and the 30K American troops in South Korea couldn't stop the North Koreans today let alone the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Like:
Women, armed forces, sense of humor, drinks, space agency, government (to an extent), culture, language, ordinary Russians, the extreme majority of Russians I meet on the Internet, science education.

Dislike:
Corruption, poor healthcare, idiotic media coverage (not so much biased, as it is retarded), money being wasted, bribe-takers, those who got to their posts just cause they're daddy's famous, inability to experiment, lack of a humanities education.

Also not a huge of Moscow. It's turning into Rome, and I don't want a single city corrupting all of Russia's wealth. St. Petersberg is more of a Russian City than Moscow nowadays. One of my Russian friends, president of a huge company in Russia, I won't say which one, moved from Moscow to Nizhniy Novgorod, and despite the pay duck, loves his life now, more than ever. And since this was mentioned:

Leaders:
Emperor Nicolas II (dislike - idiot, shouldn't have gotten into WWII, should've never ordered the Tannenberg Operation)
Lenin (like - Won Civil War and NEP was AWESOME. Even USSR's movie, Zolotoi Telenok (Golden Calf) said so.)
Stalin (dislike - still wasn't as bad as Hitler. I cannot forgive his act of the purges though.)
Khruschev (like - he was ok, didn't do anything superbly stupid.)
Brezhnev (dislike - stagnated the USSR, invaded Afghanistan, brought massive corruption into government.)
Gorbachev/Yeltsin (dislike - country wreckers, brought Russia to it's knees, responsible for millions of Russian deaths. Seriously, all those holding Stalin responsible for Holodomor, why not hold Gorbachev/Yeltsin responsible for similar crimes?)
Putin/Medvedev (like - stabilized Russia, made the country great, gave ordinary Russians hope.)

Also the whole Fascism thing, that's in the minority. They talk big, but usually don't back it up. I think they thrive on the media hype built around them. To most Russians, they're a pathetic joke. If it was serious, I'd certainly have it under dislike.

At least people are allowed to joke, today. It sounds pathetic, but joking was prohibited in the USSR until 1970.

Russia has interesting history. and of course part of that is communism, which although it failed badly is still interesting to view how it panned out.

It's current government although an improvement on previous communist states is only a small step up, the current domination of it's market leaders (oil barons) is something that will change eventually.
It's aggressive use of it's fuel supplies is currently the main reason it is still afloat.
It's political system is still corrupt and it's current regeneration of cold war tactics is not cool.
