It does make me wonder about whether Airbus rushed some stuff in order to beat Boeing to order deadlines. It makes me feel better about the delay of the 787 ("Dreamliner"). If the delay means they're working out bugs, then delay that mother.

Well, one of the bugs in the 787 was that the onboard WiFi used the same networking components as the aircraft's avionics. The FAA said "Uh... doesn't that mean someone could hack the avionics?" and it got sent back to the drawing board.

Yeah, kinda sad though that it was the FAA to catch it and not a Boeing engineer. I mean... I don't care how fucking good your security is, the avionics has to be a completely separate system. There's no such thing as full proof security short of a network disconnect.

About 40,000 people die in car crashes in the US every year, as opposed to about 200 in a plane, you're about 1000 times more likely to have a car crash than a plane crash.

Doesn't really challenge his assertion about death rate per distance traveled or time spent in the mode of transportation.
