Russian/belarus troops massing on Ukraine border

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcnew ... p/rcna7203Russia and belarus are amassing more than 125,000 soldiers nea ukraine's northern border. Meanwhile, russia has staged missiles near japan. War cannot be ruled out.
I'm going to wait and see what happens but this can't really be ignored.
What are you thoughts and opinions on the situation??

Russia already knows if a war breaks out NATO will be involved, there's many pacts such as NATO, the Rio Pact, and the alliances between Oceanic and Asian countries. Russia doesn't have too many allies themselves infact, most of the world thinks of them as bullies.

Yeah, and if it is real, Russia won't hit Japan, just make some attacks on Ukraine and then leave. You all know how these things go.

I mean Russia has proved throughout history that it doesn't need independent allies, it needs puppet states (Belarus and to some extent Kazakhstan) and countries that will turn a blind eye (China). And it ultimately doesn't matter what the rest of the world thinks to Russia, it only matters what the people who are in it's way think.

Well, there's the question of ceasing the recognition of Russian as an official language, which seems to be one of their grievances over in Eastern Ukraine. Maybe that is what he's referring to. Also, no, they want to stick around unless there was an imminent threat to their life and health. It's their home.

Ukraine only did that to increase use of Ukrainian throughout the country, because the language was pretty much repressed during Soviet times, and the Ukrainian government is trying to bring it back.
They derecognized Russian as an official language for another reason, too. If you look at Belarus, Belorussian is spoken in some rural areas, but scarcely in Minsk and other urban areas. This is because Russia used their old tactic of Russification. Russians understand that the more Russified a country is, the easier it is to annex it/puppet it, which is what they did with Belarus. Also, Ukrainians have had a history of animosity towards Russians. Ukraine is lucky to have made it this far without being Russified, and they're continuing their efforts.

I'm sorry, I don't deal in right-wing nationalist conspiracy theories. If you had something else to say which doesn't depend on animosity towards a specific ethnic or linguistic group, we could continue this conversation.

My bet, full war ain't gonna start. All sides got too much to lose from potential escaltion, which may spiral outta control with more and more countries getting involved. Gains will be dubious at best, and losses might exceed expectations. But sabre rattling is to be expected alot.

You would think that by now Europe would have reduced or totally cut off it's dependence on Russian natural gas. Until we all stop it, the envelope will get pushed and pushed and pushed and we'll all eventually be dragged into a conflict.

Lol that's not a right-wing nationalist conspiracy theory. Russification policies in the former Russian Empire and USSR are a well-established historical fact and most of the countries in Central and Eastern Europe stopped giving Russian favored-language status once they gained independence. Post-1994 Biełaruś is one of the only exceptions.
