I never understood this effort to be first for tangible things.

Being at a movie debut usually had rewards like the actors being present (granted a long time ago).

I remember reading an article where people pay 10’s of thousands of dollars to get the new playstation off the line……why?

For the last bit it's usually because the first models off the line can have limited edition features. The first PS4s for example were backwards compatible with ps3 games but then later models got rid of that feature iirc

Considering the fact scalpers have in the past also targeted essential goods, such as vaccines, and even medical supplies, there should be laws against doing it.

Because Marvel is the peak of consumerist "culture" and anything that keeps the consumerist for consuming is bad, even when its something as temporary as a movie no one will talk about in a week.

This is laughable. Peak consumerist culture is fast fashion and the fashion industry in general. And unlike fucking movies, fashion has lifecycle problems.

There's no issue with consumerism when it results in the proliferation of services (except with electricity and emissions issues), it's consumerism that produces physical products that's the bigger problem.
