Including the U.S. and Canada into the definition would make the definition practically meaningless, given you’d need a new term to define the non-Anglo parts of the Western Hemisphere mainland.

I can see Quebec being included for cultural reasons, though Latin America is a weird amalgamation of geography and shared history and (broad) cultural elements.

The Holy Roman Empire is the successor to the Western Roman Empire. And the Netherlands revolted against the heretical HRE. As such the netherlands is the true fifth rome.

I love how this went from a query being posted to whatever the fuck it turned into to... anyways, the last (debatably) legal successor of Rome was the Ottoman Empire.

Neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an Empire.

The pope supported it so holy. The pope is also roman so roman, and what classifies as an empire is very debated, so an empire as well.

Yeah but I stand my ground that San Marino is the true successor to the Roman Empire. But let’s get back on topic before the mods come knocking on the door

Guess I’m a based history nerd because I use history to make some dumb alt history scenarios, like what if King Edward was gay and my most beloved What if walls didn’t exist.
