I actually know this one because I spent a week getting drunk at Colonial Williamsburg. It wasn’t actually taxes that were the sticking point but rather access to international trade, the sterling system as it was then, and the desire to break treaties with the tribal allies from the seven years war and expand westward. But you are right that it wasn’t inspired by high minded virtue. Except for Sam Adams, he was like an 18th century Al Sharpton.

And there was stuff about weapons confiscation.

Jefferson was a wealthy guy. That he chose to continue keeping slaves was just that, a choice.

Actually no. Jefferson's ability to free his slaves was limited due to his business' debts. Under the laws of the time slaves were considered property, and like any property they are are subject to the claims of creditors. This means Jefferson did not have the legal right to free them. Jefferson did come into possession of five slaves that were not subject to this debt, and those he freed. He also freed two more illegally by allowing them to escape.

There was also the limitations on trade with France and Spain, which meant the colonies were paying out the nose to import goods from Louisiana and New Spain from merchants in London.

You should actually read the letter of the prisoner, which was originally published there, and then come back and "lol" and "lmao" about the various allegations of torture. Again, I just feel that I should point out, for one last time, that it does not really serve your interests to live in a society where people can be tortured for political reason, and the response of the public is to lol and lmao about it.

There appears to be nothing else going on in this thread that cannot be handled by somebody else. Enjoy your America.

The Gateway Pundit is infamously a far right hoax website that publishes made up lies. It's very funny, you see, how you're trying to act so serious and intellectual, and this is your source.

TFW you literally start a war just to keep your slaves in chains but debt catches up to you but you free like two at the end so it's okay. Lmao.

Forced medical experimentation.

As an aside note, there is really no precedent in the Western notion of basic human rights for the concept forcing people to add or remove anything to or from their own bodies. It was previously assumed that a person had a natural right to do whatever they want to their own body, because it was their property. This is, for example, the theory of human rights which allows you to be transgender - even though arguments could be made that it is not wise for you to alter your own body in this way, it is accepted in the Western notion of human rights and bodily autonomy that it is your right to do so, because your body is your own property.

Forced medical experimentation of what sort and on whom? Be specific.

Hypocrite you guys taking down Jefferson's statues are the ones getting 'so offended by certain of his actions.'

The people whining about how the taking down of statues is "erasing history" or "attacking democracy" seem like the offended ones.

The people taking down Jefferson statues have grievances, even if you don't agree with them. The people complaining are about fifteen kilometres away from having a point remotely anchored in reality, and are really just outraged.

Like I said earlier, it would not be out of character for the US to torture prisoners. America is a real bad country with real bad prisons. But Mr. "Within Your Rhetorical Mode :geek: " citing an actual fake news website is hilarious.

So where was this indignation when BLM protesters were being zip-tied and locked in the back of vans for hours before being released without charges? Or is that different because it's not your side?

Don't joke about such serious matters.

It might be the only thing people will remember in 1500 years.

WW2 starts when Hitler illegally awarded the German equestrian team all the gold medals in the Olympics and ends when the Olympic Medals Committee parachutes an airborne army over the Rhine river.

Which you misunderstood, by the way. As the article makes clear, the DoC officials were held in contempt due to the delay of jail officials turning over medical documents. That's a very specific ruling, and not one suggesting the judge agrees that Worrell was tortured.

It is in fact more likely that his mistreatment is due to incompetence than malice, as such problems in US prisons and jails are by no means unique to Jan. 6 Capitol insurrectionists.
