Halloween 2021

Well everyone, it's that time again. After going through another hard year of covid, political dysfunction and virtual insanity, at least we can finally put all of our troubles to the side for one night and get ready for all the spooky scary skeletons and kids in bedsheet ghost costumes showing up at your door. Halloween has been my favorite holiday since I was a kid, and im excited that Halloween is here once again. This is the night I sait 364 days a year for. So NS, What is your favorite thing about Halloween? How will you be celebrating this year? And do you think we will see trick or treat levels return to normal after many kids had to forgo it in 2020 due to the coronavirus?

I think that Halloween can only recover if the kids start indulging in tricks once again. Every year, there’s more houses without lights on…and thus, fewer houses with treats.

I want to live in a place that gets trick or treaters so I can make my ultimate trick or treat door:

Get a replacement for the front door. Cut a hole in it in the middle top third. On the outside hang a benign fall/halloween wreath style decoration. On the other side take so duvatine and a werewolf mask and mount it behind the decoration, filling it in so it can be manipulated like a puppet. Get some paws on hinges and springs so when the door opens they 'grab' the side of the door.

Get a recording of a growling dog attack.

When the kids ring the bell, trigger the dog sounds, bang against the door, then shove the werewolf puppet head through the hole, 'knocking' the decoration down like the werewolf busted through the door.

Then I open the door, clothes tattered and covered in fake blood, panting, handing out candy to the kids, then act like I'm pushing back through the door with a werewolf on the other side.

If i get a kid to pee their costume it's at total success. (also, that kid gets a whole bag of candy 'cause I ruined their Halloween trying to be clever.)

Doesn't beat that story that went around about college kids taking a door house to house dressed like old women reverse trick or treating, but I think it'd be fun. I was working at a special effects house were I could have made the door but I live in a low income apartment building surrounded by affluent suburbs that I'm pretty sure think we're all crack addicts or something. So no trick or treaters.

I'd say 'don't be a dick' but I suspect that's the response you're looking for.

Its looking like a year to skip unless conditions prove more favorable. People aren't likely to show up and you can't find much in stores because the shelves are empty and inflation is relatively high.

Careful there. Don't let the edge be the death of you, or the injury.

A super majority of people aren't gonna attack you for being Chinese, and alot of it depends on where you are. Trick or treating while Chinese in Seattle? Probably safe. Trick or treating while Chinese in Watts or Compton? Bad idea.

Then was there really a need to post in the Halloween thread?

No? Ok.

Honestly it's saddening to see less and less lights on in my neighborhood. People have been growing apart, covid killed the mood starting last year, also less and less people can afford it. I miss the days of having a big bag of candy bringing my little brothers to doors as we dressed up as the 3 stooges, or the 3 muskeeteers.

Halloween is a great occasion on which to terrorize others in the neighborhood.

We had a city-wide trunk-or-treat yesterday. I walked around dressed in a jogging outfit with a Diet Coke in one hand and McDonald's fries in other talking about how, no, I did NOT take candy from that woman...

Yeah, I was Bill Clinton on a job. Next year I'll be Jimmy Carter.

I passed out tax cuts, increased taxes on my siblings, and then redistributed wealth. Parents thanked me for my candy-based civics lesson.

I wonder if it is a thing over in my new neighbourhood in Berlin to have trick or treaters.

In my old one (in the former American sector), it very much was. But not I live in what was the former Soviet sector (ie. East Berlin), so not sure.

Have a blessed Samhain everyone. And don't sacrifice sheep!

Happy Halloween! In my neighbourhood many don’t have Halloween decorations, but the houses that do have a history of giving out large chocolate bars and candies…
