Unfortunately, I don't live in a neighborhood anymore, so I don't get any trick-or-treaters anymore. Plus, I wouldn't even be able to dress up for my younger siblings' Halloween party that they're having since I've been so preoccupied with rl stuff that I haven't thought about my costume

Honestly it's saddening to see less and less lights on in my neighborhood. People have been growing apart, covid killed the mood starting last year, also less and less people can afford it. I miss the days of having a big bag of candy bringing my little brothers to doors as we dressed up as the 3 stooges, or the 3 muskeeteers.

Halloween is a great occasion on which to terrorize others in the neighborhood.

This is also why people quit Halloween. Adults being wierd.

My favorite thing about Halloween is that it's the one day of the year it's acceptable, and expected, for me to haunt people... Mwahahahaha...

I've always loved Halloween. I love ghosts, wizards, goblins, jack-o'-lanterns, witches, black cats, the whole shebang. I love the vibe, I love the decorations, I love the festive T-shirts, I love the spooky orchestrated music, I could look at Halloween decorations and search up spooky backgrounds online all day long any day of the year. It also doesn't hurt that Wisconsin is beautiful in October. I always liked going trick-or-treating as a kid and would basically be in a state of sugar-addled bliss the entire first half of November as a result of it. It's also always cool as a kid because I knew my grandparents who lived on other sides of the state would always get me a cute Halloween card with a little bit of cash in it. Plain and simple, it's one of my favorite days of the year.

But at the same time, what is there in it for adults? It's not a public day off from work. (It wasn't even a day off from school most years - we'd have a three- or four-day weekend in late October each year but it wouldn't necessarily be contiguous with Halloween.) So once you get to a certain age, there isn't really much you can do as far as celebrating it anymore, not unless you just want an excuse to get drunk or something over the nearest weekend - which is incredibly sad because I'm such a big fan of the whole vibe of it.

I have grown an extra set of arms and gained an additional 3 feet in preparation
ideally we are looking to fill about 4 pillows, one for each arm. I believe I can fulfill this quota because if they don't give me candy I will likely commit arson

I live in Australia so Halloween isnt a big thing and also most schools in my town have covid so I dont think anyone did anything. I guess Easter can compensate for Halloween so thats something to look forward too.

why is it considered 'hip' to talk about kids like this ? it comes across really poorly to me

I spent my Halloween on the side of the road trying to get someone to charge my battery for 5-10 minutes because I left my radio plugged in and then didn't drive for a week and a half. And I ran my own jump starter out jumping other people's cars. And I ran the battery so dead it wouldn't even roll start.

The upside of driving a VW Bus, though, is even if I don't make friends the Bus makes friends. So one of the Bus' friends came through. Then I had to drive around aimlessly to charge the battery back up.

Maybe three quarters of normal levels.

Here is China. Because there is no holiday on this day, there is no sense of existence on Halloween.

But I prepared a box of candies for myself. To be honest, no matter whether there is a holiday today, no one can refuse sweets and the good mood it brings. Isn't it?

I didn't do anything this year. It's usually my favourite holiday, but it's not really done in Romania and the Covid rate combined with my current semi-shielding state means that I'm not keen on going out anywhere that could be crowded.

My landlady brought her kid and one of her friends by for trick-or-treating though (my landlady lived in LA for a bit so she's familiar with the idea and has been encouraging it locally... though I think more in her neighbourhood than mine).

Oh, I guess I also made a few decorations. They don't have pumpkins or suitable turnips for carving (the turnips here are a bit weird) so I got some cardboard that was going to the trash and painted myself a little jack-o-lantern along with some bats, a ghost and a black cat.

I'm more scared of the parents, not gonna lie, especially given Halloween here is on a cool day, so the water would likely easily freeze, and, well...

Anyway, we didn't give out candy because we have never really been able to afford them, so we just closed the curtains and relaxed. Nobody knocked on our door, fortunately.

What’s it with people and hating kids? Yeah sometimes them fuckers can be annoying but they’re kids. Don’t expect them to be the most polite and know rocket science. But I can probably guess that it’s a mixture of realizing your longer a kid anymore and you have to pay taxes, work at a job you hate and need to vent that anger on the worst targets.
