That poll, aside from just being a worthless media poll, is not even about the topic in question. The fact that 6% more than half of the saps who answered it were wrong has nothing to do with whether or not the people see each other as enemies to be destroyed.

Dems made it abundantly clear since 2016 that they think that Trump supporters are subhumans to be destroyed. The insults towards us are still ongoing. The feeling is therefore returned to them, as anyone would legitimately expect. Any Dems who thought we would curl into balls and cry about their lousy opinions instead of hating them right back were in la-la land. They don't get friends by calling people all sorts of BS "ists" and "phobes," claiming that they're unintelligent, and worse - instead, they very predictably get enemies.

And yet, in the real world, we see that it is the democrats who are making an effort to keep republicans alive during a pandemic - and not the other way around.

And yes it doesn't make sense. It violates basic axioms that we use to understand the world.

the people who really like Trump in 2018 are the same ones who really disliked Blacks, Muslims, LGBT+ people, and Hispanics in 2011. this doesn't hold for the GOP in general-Trump draws on this particular group of people to a unique degree.

specifically, the Trump effect occurs most powerfully at the most hateful end of the spectrum, or above 0.5 on the animus scale

but it's not happening for anyone on the Democratic side. hating republican-identified groups doesn't predict favorability toward any Democratic figures or the Democratic Party. there's just no detectable animus motivating the left. It's not "both sides."
