I went to IMS during a road trip, but it was the first day of qualifying for the MotoGP so I too could not take the tour.

But I did touch the Marmon Wasp and the Berg-Warner trophy.

Wow. I don't think we could touch the trophy, I think because of (the you know what virus).

Oh no, it was not allowed. It was also not well attended...

NASCAR, through collaboration with IMSA (which they own), Hendrick Motorsports, Chevrolet, and Goodyear, to pursue a Garage 56 entry in the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 100th running of the event, using a modified NASCAR NextGen Hybrid Powertrain Chevrolet Camaro.

This will be the first time a NASCAR Cup car in any capacity has traveled to Eurasia since December 2018 when Jimmie Johnson did a car swap with Fernando Alonso in Bahrain. It will also be the first time since 1976 that NASCAR has been to Le Mans, when they piloted two entries in the then-brand new Grand International class, a Ford Torino run in collaboration with Julie Donlavey and a Dodge Charger run in collaboration with Hershel McGriff; neither made it past the halfway point. Donlavey’s #90 had a transmission issue in the 11th hour and McGriff’s had an oil leak in the 3rd.

The drivers are TBA, but Hendrick wants to put an active cup driver in the car, which would mean Phelps and NASCAR would have to put a two week bye after the 15th race in the season (presumably Gateway or, for logistical help, New Hampshire, as it’s the closest track to France) to allow for said active driver to participate in the required practice session set a week before the event.

While the official Garage 56 entry isn’t announced until January 2023, it is highly likely they will get the entry.

Former 7-time champion crew chief and current Vice President of Competition at HMS, Chad Knaus, will serve as the program’s manager.

It's Sonoma Raceway now, but I'll forever call it Sears Point. Also, I've raced at Sears Point, picked up a Batmobile replica there as well. And my favorite semi-privateer team (well, privateer again now) is or was housed there, Flying Lizards.

My and my friend call the NASCAR extension the Poop Chute because we are mature adults. Also, NASCAR fans are fucking hopeless getting out of that place. I've been to a couple NASCAR events there for various reasons and getting out is always ten time the clusterfuck it is when any other series is there.

Shooting an Izod commercial there once I accidentally threw shade on Ryan Hunter Ray's series. I didn't realize he was who I was transporting and Grand Am was there as a supporting race and I casually mentioned that I was way more interested in sports cars and kinda meh on IRL. Later on Ray started racing sports cars. Clearly because the mouthy PA from one of his sponsor shoots...

The 12 Hours of Sebring have begun. Like, a while ago. What's left is the 9 hours and 50 minutes of Sebring.

Corvette leads GTD Pro.

Sebastian Montoya, the son of Pablo leads LMP2. They've really been going on about this kid for a while now.

And just like that, Juan Pablo Montoya takes over for his son then promptly gets squeezed into another car mid-spin and the race is over for the Montoyas. The commentators have to find something else to talk about for 8 hours

KMags wrestled that car onto the fourth row, yes.

Schumacher Jr made it into the top 15 as well. Both things that would've been unthinkable last season.

Wow. Maybe they have talent after all.
Of course I am joking with that statement because these drivers are the 20 best in the world. Unfortunately lack of team resources make it hard to winn. For example in NASCAR we have Rick Ware, His drivers are Pretty good, but the team do have the best cars. So Haas just doesn't have fast cars. They might be somewhat faster this year.
But you would think because Gene has a good NASCAR team he would have a good F1 team but nope.

The F1 team has had some serious cash flow issues in recent years following the Rich Energy fiasco (which is how they ended up needing the cash injection that Mazepin brought in), and pretty much abandoned developing last season’s car to focus on this one. Which seems to have worked.

A stock car and a formula car are vastly different kinds of racing. Just because you can squeeze a little out of a pushrod V8 and an spec body shape doesn't mean you're going to build an winning F1 engine or work out its way more complex aerodynamics.

Lest I sound too snobbish, going the other direction is difficult, too. Ferrari would struggle to make a winning stock car.

Mercedes probably could lean on lessons learned in DTM.

There’s a reason the F1 team subcontracted the car to experienced race car builder Dallara.
