If we're going down the road of "who commits more terrorism" (which is off topic here), then I'd like to point out that, in America at least, most terrorism is perpetrated by the far right, not Muslims.

This is vindication of what the far right has been saying all along. Close off all immigration to the UK if the people are from undeveloped economies.

Given that most of those arrested tend to be British nationals, but with Islam as their religion (at least, that's what I can ascertain from the UK stats on terror arrests), stopping new immigration isn't the solution.

I'm reluctant to draw too many conclusions based on who the attacker was. The narcissism of discourse these days means that every new piece of data is scanned to see how it can be made to slot into our existing arguments or, more aptly, into our existing sense of what team we’re on.

Look at what happened with Jo Cox. Elements on the left directly attributed Jo Cox’s murder to the emotive language used by the partisans of Brexit: 'traitors', 'saboteurs' and so on. Back then, the right accused them of playing politics with a tragedy.

This time - before we knew this was likely Islamic Terrorism - some voices on the right made a link to Angela Rayner denouncing Tories as 'scum'. And those on the left pooh-poohed it as tasteless political opportunism.

If it looks like evidence for your side, you were right; if not, it’s the other side 'playing politics'.

Anyone with the slightest functional literacy will note that I made no effort to diminish what was done by Jo Cox's attacker, only to criticise the response by elements on both sides.

Sadly, some people are so blinkered by their petty irrational tribalism they instantly assume everything posted by everyone else is point scoring. This is projection on their part.

Of course, whilst we all as human beings have our lapses in judgement, there are certain people simply incapable of seeing past their petty biases.
