Would you accept the Cash Cab ride? Would you do the Video Bonus Challenge?

No I wouldn't take the Cash Cab. I'm late for work already, it's not worth it.

The largest taxi company in my hometown has a really bad reputation for being shady AF. Along the lines of sexual harassment and the sort. But uber hasn't reached it and there aren't many other options sometimes.

My understanding is the cab ride in the cash cab is the same length of time as a regular cab ride just with money earning questions, right?

IM's hypothetical states you are late enough to have time to hail a second cab - I'm just assuming here but would it take tremendously longer to hail a second cab whether you're at random city location #1 or random city location #2?

Like, if I say no to the cash cab and hail a second cab, versus getting closer to my destination and hailing a second cab - I'd probably get to work on time either way? Unless the Cash Cab specifically drives slower and/or takes a more scenic route as a design feature of giving me more chance to be on a game show.

Participants are pre-selected and sent to a specific corner at a specific time and given instructions. They may not specifically know that they're about to be on Cash Cab but they know they are participating in something.

I did some reading about it this morning after this thread popped up in my life and it appears that's how some of the contestants are screened and selected, but some of the contestants are genuinely random pickups.

The original Cash Cab was actually in the UK, started premiering in June of 2005. The United States didn't have its own version running until December 2005.

We were third, Poland beat us with their own version in September 2005.

most of our good shows are imports from across the pond.

Unfortunately, so are most of our bad shows.

Even where there is well developed reliable public transport cabs can often be much faster.

Depending on the rate of inflation it could be cheaper to take a cab than a bus 'cause you pay for a bus ride when you get on but you pay for a cab ride after it's over.

So when Adam Gowes says “This is the Cash Cab!” and all those goofy lights inside the cab go up you’re not going to be happy?

I like the idea of being on TV. Also, getting to participate in some kind of a game.

Then I can tell my friends “hey you can see me on Episode __” and it would be amazing.

That depends a lot on the city.

Many cities I've lived in regulate their cabs in some fashion to prevent this from happening. They may have a grid system that determines the fares (e.g. there's a start up fee and a set price to travel through each grid area so no matter the route, if you travel three grids areas, you're charged the price of travelling three grid areas). In my experience, taxis in Canada are generally good as are taxis in Scotland. I only took one taxi in France, but it seemed fine as well. Taxis in Italy or Romania are dodgy as fuck.

I use to look for him. Nyc yellows have their cab # on top, and he had a checker. The # they did a reasonably good job of not showing. Not a lot of checkers out there though

I'm concerned that if it became widely known that I was one of the few contestants shown on live TV on this show to be removed from the cab without winning any money, then people might start to consider me un-intelligent. This is not something that I would hope to see happen.
