I'd rather not lose the pain feeling, a part of perception, that helps to avoid excessive damage. But, I could agree to feel pain less. Not lose it entirely.

Now, if it was something like, you still feel pain, but it is not absolutely uncomfortable and allows you to remain focussed, while knowing what causes it, it would be a beneficial.

That's not a normal thing that happens to people. See a doctor.

I mean, it is a thing that happens to some women and other people with a uterus.

Granted, they should see a doctor about it too (in principle, in practice this apparently results in doctors ignoring the shit out of one's problems because obviously women's pain isn't real).

Though still better to feel that than to die because you couldn't tell that you were internally bleeding after giving birth if you actually make it to an age where that's a thing you can do.

Or engage in risky behavior that ends in severe damage.

It's a hard pass for me too, in terms of why pain occurs. It's a protective mechanism and thus, as horrible is it may be, necessary.

I wouldn't have thought that menstrual cramps would feel like stomach cramps, but given that I don't menstruate I won't pretend that's anything but a guess.

They can. For some women the pain is so severe that their stomachs also suffer, particularly in cases of endometriosis that has caused adhesions to the bowels.

I mean, they generally feel about the same as stomach cramps, except lower. Or they can feel like intestinal cramps. If you've eaten a wonky burrito at the wrong time of month, you might not know why you hurt.

I'll defer to the expertise of those with a uterus on matters pertaining to it acting up.

Pain can sometimes be weird as well, in that it can be hard to localise where it actually is. For example the brain can get confused as fuck when you have pain in the lower abdomen, the actual source of the pain being at the lower back, but the pain sensation tracks around to near your navel.

There are no upsides to this one, it's legit a burden and a neurological illness I'm glad not to have.

But, while you're here. *Opens trenchcoat* I've got some more superpowers for you here, what can I get ya? I've got Alzheimers, some Parkinson's, fancy some muscular dystrophy? Epilepsy is outta stock but I can order it from Amazon if you really want it, it'll cost you though.

There are zero upsides, absolutely.

Infected Mushroom wrote:For example, if you were forced into the military in a future war and let’s say you ended up shot, this ability would allow you to trudge on (though you might still die, at least you’re still up). If said trudging onward results in you dying where stopping to get medical care would keep you alive, this is a tremendous downside. In fact, I'd say death is the biggest possible downside one could experience out of this whole thing.

Infected Mushroom wrote:Another example is when you experience those absolutely awful stomach pains. Like the ones where it feels like you can’t get out of bed at all. Well… no more of those.

And if getting out of bed and going on as normal without the pain kills you because you don't seek treatment or don't rest as needed? Once again, dying is the biggest downside you could possibly have out of this scenario.

As a person who ignores physical discomfort easily, I really have to pass.

Pain, as annoying as it can be, is a warning mechanism.
Mental pain is registered the same way as physical pain.

https://kids.frontiersin.org/articles/1 ... 2017.00046

Without actually feeling pain, I'd severely damage my body. I'd probably drop dead from exhaustion. With all my muscles torn and several bones broken.
So. No thanks.

Tbh: I really should be sleeping rn. I "had to" sleep earlier this evening to calm a headache caused by tiredness.
Thus me typing happily on NS (g) rn is kinda unhealthy / unwise. But so much fun!

Would you have to be more careful? Possibly.

I think most militaries would prefer their soldiers to notice when they are injured, seek medical treatment, and report back to duty when able.

Instead of bleed out pointlessly because "woops, I didn't notice the shrapnel in my armpit."

This power is altogether stupid. Pain exists for a reason.

Poll options: Yes, I want this curse that will ruin my life and potentially lead to me dying earlier from easily diagnoseable causes I don't notice because I don't feel pain.

No, I would like to live life like normal thanks.

WOW, I can't believe so many people don't want the life-ruining, deadly death option.

This isn't your first time making a decision horrifically unbalanced and making it easy for people to immediately make a choice without thinking about it, yet you're still surprised?

Just to add on to this. It also usually means you cannot sweat or at least not very well, and leaves you open to significant injuries. Imagine walking on a broken foot or having internal injuries and thinking you're fine.
