It better not be China, although I wouldn't be that surprised. They've got a massive amount of money from selling anything to anyone (nuclear equipment to Iran and Pakistan, arms to various countries like Sudan, cheap crap to us). Besides, they could call the debt (you know, that multi-trillion dollar debt we owe them?) anytime, although I doubt it. It would destroy our economy, which would in turn destroy the world's economy. Anyway, while China is a communist dictatorship and a crappy place to live, they're definitely an emerging military and economic power.

No, I'd be really interested in this multi-trillion dollar debt, source please.

Sorry, I mistyped. I meant multi-billion.

Oh that is nothing we could repay that by raising taxes back up to what they were under Reagen.

I wasn't referring to the US, actually, so much as Israel, Morocco, and the rest of Europe (including Russia).

Of course, if the US joined with Canada the EU, the new conglomeration would dominate EVERYTHING.

EDIT: Yes, even dragons can use the wrong word by accident.

Not yet anyway. >_>

However, I think in the context of what I was describing (from that crazy-fun book), it would be more indirect--I don't think Japan would formally declare war or deploy a serious amount of troops. A majority of the actually aggression would originate from the Turks, Japan would kind of just be there to be there when they needed to be there.

Or something.

Eh, how's the logo for Japs on the Moon coming along?

Do you know how many of Japan's resources does Japan have to import? at least 70% of them. It is a good inversion for everyone, as Japan has almost no resources. I think Isaac Asimov based Terminus on it.

They were higher under Reagan than now.

And I agree with Natapoc, the debt owed to China is minuscule, when our real debt is in the ten's of trillions, less than a trillion being 'called in' (they can't btw, sicne its mostly bonds), isn't going to ruin us.

Yes, when you compare all that land with Russia, the U.S, and the possibility of a unified Asia, it works out.

Nobody said Japan wouldn't suffer economically for this. As a matter of fact, it would probably perpetuate some form of aggression, especially considering, around this time, energy will become a serious concern with Japan producing little to none of it.

Or something.
