I'm so excited and there's no one here, damn my time zone.

...and I can't go to old NSG and tell anyone,

It's like having a new pair of shoes wash up on a desert island.

Testing, testing...

[QUOTE=Jingostic Monopolies;14721083]I agree with Barringtonia.[/QUOTE]

Damn, it would have been cool to bring over posts from the old NSG and have my own conversation :(

Well, not super cool, but...look, there's no one else here alright!

I don't know if I'm just a little more acquainted with the layout on second visit or whether there's improvements being made, I'm already beginning to like my own personal little General empire.

Collapse/Expand view, okay,

Perhaps the order of the text options should be re-ordered - I would like...

I'm not sure I'll use the others.

1. I'm assuming I'll be able to change my avatar at some point,
2. 'Board Index' - can that be changed? Should be: Nationstates.
3. There should also be a smilie review function, as in posters can submit smilies they'd like used, if it's possible to add at administrator's whim.

I don't know if the Options can be moved either, below previous posts,

All in good time I'm sure.

Your avatar is the same as your nation's flag; if you have a square flag it'll be stretched horizontally. Though I could have sworn we fixed that ...

Or if you have a wide flag, it will be crunched!

Or is that arrow needing to be something more diagonal. Hrm...

EDIT Part 2: Now there's a thought....can we have a thread for suggesting/talking about features?

We allow variable-dimension flags on nation pages, but in places where we have to scale them -- the thumbnail versions in places like the World Census Report, or here in the forum -- we use the "official" flag proportions of 107:71.

Ideally we'd scale in proportion, so flags look right but still cannot be oversized or format-destroying. But that'll take some fiddling.

We still haven't tested under load. This is the part that's keeping me awake at night.

EDIT Part 2: Now there's a thought....can we have a thread for suggesting/talking about features?

Yes! Please go ahead. As far as I'm concerned, these fall into three categories:

  1. Things that need to be fixed ASAP: major problems with the forum or game integration that will create significant problems if not addressed by admin now
  2. Missing features or minor issues that should be addressed by admin, if/once the board has survived a load test, and we know it's viable
  3. Cosmetic tweaks and customizations; nice-to-haves, which can be dealt with by admin in due course, or a Forum Admin sooner if you're really nice to her

And assuming she can figure out how to do them =P I still need to poke around and see if I can add smilies. Couldn't decipher how to do so before, I should poke around the admin panel some more :D

Gosh, I feel like a small boat in a harbour surrounded by large old tankers, very grateful to be here.

I guess the biggest issue is the one that can't be tested, board speed when there's loads of posters, I'm sure we'd all, within reason, agree to come at a specific time to test and, since we live in different countries and continents, you'd get some reasonably good data.

There's what, 36 people signed on, I guess I'm asleep at the busiest times for NS but I rarely see more than, say, about 100 signed in and 150 visitors so perhaps when there's about 60 people signed up, can run the first test?

I guess I forget that these boards are more centred on RP than General, which is very much fair enough, and I guess they use list.

I suppose..

Ha ha, I can't tell the difference between my left and right so I aligned=left thinking it would appear on the right and then it appeared on the left and I was all 'damn, I need to figure this out without asking and looking like a fool', only to realise...

Think folks will like all the new post formatting options?

I suspect the question will be whether you moderators like the options once people start getting creative with them ;)

Well, it's not like they can be used in page-breaking ways or to cause more trouble than people already can cause. (Which is why, for instance, the table code doesn't let users dictate the table's width or borders and stuff.)

I imagine sports-RPers will like using tables to keep league charts or something neatly organized, and maybe people who run storefronts as well.

I read back on some interview when rummaging around NS in general where Max said he never foresaw region crashing when creating the game, which was his favorite surprise, and similarly I suspect people will manage to do something with these, I've not the imagination to know what.

As I realised before, I'm a generalite so I tend to limit myself to 'quote', 'italic' and the occasional smilie.

The best thing is the natural link to my nation, it may well cause me to consider RP'ing a little.

While I deeply respect the ingenuity of the NS player base, I imagine that spawning a separate game sphere via BBCode is a little too much to expect even from us.

...

...though I may be wrong.

The new forums!

The green's not too bad. Maybe if the icons/text were changed it'd balance out more.
