In my view, the Soviet Union became a militarist and imperialist state (with its own privileged stratum) which cloaked itself in socialist rhetoric. I would be willing to bet that China will head down a similar path during this century as it locks horns with America.

I mean, I'd like to be able to say that's not the case, but I'm doubtful it isn't myself, based on some recent research I've done. At best, all I can say is that we'll see. Regardless, if that is the path it ultimately goes down, it's going to be fucking terrible for its entire population if it goes through the same beats the USSR did, especially in the end. I will say, though, from what I've seen, the CPC has consistently made it a point during its congresses since 1991 that emulating the USSR would be a mistake, so it might not be that clear-cut.

Yes, but that doesn't make my comparison unwarranted. It'd still be like if the CSA went and occupied Cuba after the US Civil War and its official line was that it was the true ruler of the USA, plus parts of Canada and all of Mexico. And then received backing from the British and French empires for decades and was courted as the true face of America in the realm of international politics for decades afterward.

The PRC has not made military aggressions toward Western powers.
