Texas officials removed two webpages in late August that provided resources for LGBTQ youths — including a link to a suicide prevention hotline — a few hours after criticism from one of Gov. Greg Abbott’s Republican primary challengers.

The candidate, Don Huffines, who owns a real estate development company in the Dallas area, wrote Aug. 31 on Twitter: “It’s offensive to see @GregAbbott_TX use our tax dollars to advocate for transgender ideology. This must end.”

Wow, Texas continues to be worse than i expected.

edit: Well its government anyway, bit unfair to tarnish an entire state.

Some Republican run state Governments are acting like they will never face competitive elections again.

And most of them are making sure of it just to prove the point.

and this is why preempting that with a removal of all republican officeholders from power, coupled with the dissolution of the republican party, is the only solution left to preserve democracy for the long term, no matter that it will end democracy for the short term

that one party, flaws and all, is still interested in democracy and the other... isn't... is not conducive to the survival of democracy as early as these upcoming midterms

Don’t you live in NYS? This is an issue with both parties.

Yup. I would not be shocked if they refuse to recognize any Democratic victory next year and if they lose a state legislature refuse to hand over power.

Ah yes. MTG is openly inciting secession on twitter. The fact that more than a single number digit percentage of Americans want to secede is concerning.

I really doubt Y'all Quaeda would be able to actually achieve anything they want though violence, as much as they like to chant and yell about "rounding up the libs". We saw how mant scattered and ram on 1/6 when a single officer opened fire and the rioters fled like scared animals.

Still, I foresee a future where right wing extremism becomes evem more prominent and dangerous.

And yet Republicans in Congress don’t care. They refused to convict Trump for inciting a riot because they are too afraid of their rapid base and primary challengers. They should have done the right thing and convicted him and told their base to take a hike and effectively said We don’t want your vote if you support an insurrectionist.

Well yes, but it is a "slightly" bigger issue with one party.
It is like saying "Randall Park and Jeff Bezos both have a lot of money". Which is true - both have more money than me - but Bezos has about 200.000x as much as Jimmy Woo.

The entire idea that conservatives would stand up and fight the evil government fell apart last year during the riots. Most of them cowered in fear and couldn’t actually do shit.

The idea that conservatives will automatically win in any war is just silly because they had a chance but they chickened out because black people and Antifa are scary. Then again I shouldn’t expect much from the people who are scared to step foot in any downtown area in the US

Well, the right had to embrace environmentalism sometime. It's just unfortunate the organism they decided to fall in love with kills.

Totalitarianism is now. It's getting worse of course, but it's already here. Anyone who does not understand that freedom doesn't exist is too far gone.

It seems to be cheerled by a trumpist so not surprised. It’s bizarro times we live in. People support leaders who don’t mind them dying and making others (the vaccinated) sick.

Charge up that hill antivaxers!

Oh look, more evidence that the Republican ignorance and posturing is hurting the US long term. We really should be getting rid of the debt ceiling as a thing Congress has to vote on.

first thought, no

to people here who have a twitter account: go log on to twitter, hit report tweet, click "It expresses intentions of self-harm or suicide", and add as many like tweets as you can

even if they won't keep themselves, even if they won't be their brother's keepers, WE SHALL KEEP THEM HERE! ON THIS EARTH! ALIVE!

Of course it won't happen. Republicans want it as the tool they can beat Democrats with and Democrats can't get rid of the filibuster because two of their members are in love with the idea of compromise for compromises sake.
