Biden ends mass immigration arrests at work sites

The Biden administration on Tuesday announced U.S. immigration authorities will no longer carry out mass arrests of unauthorized immigrants at work sites, saying law enforcement efforts should focus on holding exploitative employers accountable. In a memo, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) should prioritize combating illegal acts committed by "unscrupulous" employers, whom he noted often pay workers substandard wages, subject them to unsafe working conditions and facilitate human trafficking and child exploitation."Our worksite enforcement efforts can have a significant impact on the well-being of individuals and the fairness of the labor market," Mayorkas wrote. "Our accomplishments in this area make clear that we can maximize the impact of our efforts by focusing on unscrupulous employers who exploit the vulnerability of undocumented workers." [...] Mayorkas said the large arrest operations "misallocated enforcement resources" and discouraged fearful immigrant workers from cooperating in workplace investigations. [...] In his memo, Mayorkas instructed top DHS officials to avoid placing undocumented victims of labor exploitation in deportation proceedings and to consider granting them temporary legal status. Such actions, Mayorkas argued, will encourage them to cooperate with federal law enforcement. Mayorkas also charged the department with making sure that E-Verify, an online government program that allows employers to check the status of would-be employees, is not "misused" to retaliate against workers who report workplace abuse.

By targeting employers, Mayorkas said the policy shift could usher in a fairer labor market and benefit businesses competing with employers that are exploiting immigrant workers, including by paying them less.

No, this is shifting some of that state hammer onto the heads of the "freely enterprising entrepreneurs" who shit on foreign workers. Donald Trump would've given the "freely enterprising entrepreneurs" a fat tax break instead.

oh, but that's just the cherry on top

trump's capos would've worked on standardize the ostracism by penalizing "exploitative employment practices", and while employers do tend to be shitty and usually are towards illegal immigrants, what is "exploitative" can cover a lot of ground

I feel like calling the audits from Republicans "A part of the coverup" is a good way to backfire if you get Republicans all thinking Republican lawmakers are also covering up the "Fraud".

I wonder what will happen if Trump really does try to run for a second term again in 2024. So many Republicans have already shown their interest in running. Would he become the Republican candidate with barely any opposition?

Either way, I am becoming tired of the two-party system. Next election, I will be voting for the Communist Party candidate. I just want to shake things up a bit in this country

yes

also, he should be barred from ever running again -- you know he'll declare himself the winner before instigating another insurrection just to feel the blood flowing out

trump has an advantage that no one else does that guarantees him the nomination if he runs
no one else can attack him
not if they want his voters

If he’s going to run, preferably he announces and campaigns prior to Midterms.

Nothing like him to drive up Democrat turnout

From what I saw Virginia has a massive mess of a commission that’s full of 16 people. With half of them elected by the public at large.

There’s to much of a possibility that democrats could control the chamber entirely and so the republicans don’t like it

I voted Green last election. Depending on who ends up being their candidates, I'll probably do it again next election, or else I'll vote for some other left-wing third party candidate that actually represents my views. I'm not voting for one of the two right-wing capitalist major party candidates.

If trump runs or another version of him runs, then I vote demo.

If it's just two nitwits?, might still vote demo as it could be a closeted trumpist. If not, I will probably vote 3rd party.

If we perverted the US, being gay, bisexual, whatever isn't a big deal. Nor would be having as much sex as possible! :p
