Isn't that a bit premature?

There definitely is.
2010 was not a good midterm for Democrats.
That being said Biden +10 to Youngkin+1.5 is a much smaller swing than Obama +6 to McDonnell +17.
Also trends are just that - trends. There's a lot of things that happened this time around in VA. We'll have to do a proper post mortem with clear heads at a later date when more data is in. Right now it could be anything from "The Democrats are all going to die in 2022" to "Terry McAuliffe ran a surprisingly bad campaign."
If anything, that's the biggest problem he had. McAuliffe ran a surprisingly bad campaign combined with his statement on parents dictating to school boards. On the other hand, Youngkin ran an equally surprisingly good campaign, managing to carefully play to both sides of the Trump fence, keeping his distance early on and slowly coming to Trumpist embraces in the closing weeks, using CRT rhetoric as his membership card and plucking away a lot of ostensibly centrist voters with nonetheless clear Culture War positions.

Phil Murphy, New Jersey’s Democratic governor, and his Republican challenger, Jack Ciattarelli, addressed supporters almost simultaneously early Wednesday. Both said it will take more time to count all the vote-by-mail and provisional ballots.

Drown your sorrows, get some rest and get up tomorrow ready to go to work again at whatever you're doing to resist Republican white supremacist authoritarianism. That's the way this works. Me, I helped keep a fascist off a city council tonite so I'm content.

McAuliffe's campaign basically seemed to be "Trump bad vote for me even though we're not even running against Trump". Democrats need a better strategy.

Republicans swept my hometown and county. My efforts made no difference. How I miss NYC and Can’t wait to go back. I wish everywhere voted like they do but I’ll never get that wish.

You keep saying you're done with politics, surely doesn't sound like it from how much you continue to bitch whine and moan about it.

Abolitionism in the North has leagued itself with Radical Democracy, and so the Slave Power was forced to ally itself with the Money Power; that is the great fact of the age.

i'll fold that into my post mortem later ig when we get all the data in but the way the HoD went-and some of the state legislators in NJ, plus the demographic flip means that the campaign is only part of the problem
oh, the preview: we're fucked, again

If only people weren’t so gullible and fall for stupid nonsense but this is a right wing country at heart. Democratic victories are upsets at this point. There is no reason Murphy should be losing unless people lied to pollsters. 2022 will be a disaster no point denying it.
