I know, but no one is going to outright say "I'm taking power and destroying democracy because we did not win." They need to sugar coat it with a thin veneer of respectability.

I mean neither Augustus or Hitler ever actually declared their republics to be dead, so it would seem that going the Palpatine route isn't very smart.
