Nothing should be banned/regulated for being distasteful. I'd say the CCP isn't getting crazy, on the contrary. It's doing what it has been doing for decades; limiting personal freedoms and micromanaging what people can and cannot do.

I feel like people in the west who applaud the CCP for these bans and/or ask for more regulations in their countries because they find femboys/gaming distasteful haven't had the military jackboot crush their own freedoms, ever. It will be interesting to see how they'll react if their governments start applying heavy-handed regulations in their hobbies, expressions, or free time activities. A good reminder of what it feels like getting kicked by a heavy boot could make people appreciate their freedoms more.

I've been searching really hard for anything related to this, and have found nothing.

MiHoYo's obviously going to need to comply with these new Big Brother-like rules (and actually, they already are: I went to their website and translated this part of their User Agreement), but I'm going to assume that this game won't be targeted by the CCP for now (istg if this gets jinxed). The game doesn't have any gore and it generally complies with the dubious censorship that Chinese games need to abide by. And in terms of sales, Genshin's popularity has largely expanded beyond China to the point where a large cut in its original playerbase won't guarantee a serious impediment of updates (let alone kill the game).

(I can't say the same for Honkai Impact though, since it's largely popular in Asia only.)

In the worst case scenario, Genshin could either be bought by a non-Chinese company or MiHoYo could move its headquarters to one of its branch offices in Japan.

They are planning to invade Taiwan, if given the chance. Conquering the world starts at home, and they still haven't forcefully conquered all neighboring regions. I mean, they are still working on eliminating all ethnic and linguistic minorities, they do need the manpower to do this. I guess it sucks to be a young Chinese man right now.

Obviously not officially. Religious teachers tend to (1) give personal stories after all of the day's materials are covered and (2) are usually more conservative.

To be honest I'm not sure about the latter. I thought of one of my closer friend to be moderate, especially considering he specifically disliked the fundamentalists and thus voted for the secular incumbent in 2019. However, he still asked about my opinion on whether all gays should've been arrested and put to death to solve the "social problem". We end up having quite a productive discussion, but still, that's a "moderate". I have no idea about how thing goes in more conservative circles. Admittedly, after the incumbents won, there has now been a stronger (I'm convinced that it's government and intelligence-sponsored lol) liberal cancel culture, increasingly being somewhat similar to that of in the West, that discourage open radicalism like that.

IM is a foreign teacher who likes gaming, the big two policies China has just rolled out is kicking out foreign teachers and clamping down on gaming.. oh the irony..

Except for a few occasional single player games, I’ve managed to quit multiplayer gaming. It’s been 3 months and going (haven’t felt any inclination to go back, hope it stays).

Surely I'm not the only person here who finds the thread title somewhat misleading? The 'gaming ban' isn't for everyone, only for school students throughout the school week, where throughout said school week students can still play games for 3 hours, so it's not like the average working man/woman isn't aloud to play video games at all or for a limited amount of time.

Banning 'femboys' is also a bit misleading if I understand the situation correctly, as it's more so to remove K-pop-esque media and subsequent influences within the media than being against 'femboys'.

And China banning fandoms and idols is relatively accurate from how I understand, but of course it could also be an exaggeration.

Personally I think a more accurate thread title would be "China restricts gaming and femboys, bans fandoms and idols", but that's just my opinion
