For one thing, if Kennedy won the election, tens of thousands of American lives would have been saved by ending the vietnam war in1968.

Have seen this one from liberals everywhere.

It's been fifty years. They got shot. Jackie was in RFK's bed within months of her husband's assassination. Ted ran in 1980 and made an utter fool of himself. Nowadays the family can't even win a primary against Ed Markey. Let go, make peace with the fact Camelot was a lie. Stop seeing the Kennedies as the be all and end all; there is no place for dynasties in America, let alone venerated ones.

Yes.

RFK wouldn't have ended the war in 1968. It's a ridiculous myth on the level of "warmonger Johnson got us into Vietnam, JFK wanted to get us out".

It would have been 69, my bad.

You are aware RFK ran on an anti war platform?

No, it wouldn't have been 1969 either.

In practice, his policy would look a lot similar to Nixon's Vietnamization.

No, no it wouldn't have.

However if we accept your argument, it would have at the least started in 1969, not 72.

Which gets back to the point if sirhan had not shot rfk, and Kennedy won, it is far more than one life that sirhan took that day.

rfk wouldn't have even won the nomination so imo it's kinda stupid to talk about his hypothetical presidency

I disagree. RFK was an anathema to foreign policy conservatives. RFK didn't like the communists and yet he thought a big long term involvement with Vietnam was a bad idea.

Things would have been different if he had been President. So much that would probably wouldn't have had Nixon or Trump for example though that that's another debate. SS changed the path of the country.

Yes because it's California who else would release him?

By definition there would be no Nixon, no Watergate, last US service man out of Vietnam before 1971.
Certainly no ford or Carter.

That bullet changed the path of history

But history being a series of progress and backlash, perhaps the American 80's or 90's would have been some kind of jingo-fascist hell (like even more so than with Reagan). And who knows where we would be today?

Butterfly effect and all. Strangle baby Hitler, maybe comes along another Nazi who is an even better tactician who doesn't do stupid things like refusing to let the army retreat from Stalingrad. You can never say with certainty if someone made the world better or worse long term.

Butterfly effect is not a guarantee. Sure we can strange baby Hitler and another Nazi is a better tactician and yet lacks the ability to motivate the people like Hitler could....

Still nobody really can't say SS didn't change the path of the nation.....

I am assuming you meant American history, when you wrote the line that I underlined. Because, I don't think the British history would have been any bit different if RFK was not shot. Half of the guys in my neighborhood do not even know him.
