The US constitution is clear on how to become a state but it seems they left out the part about what if you want out. Since that part was left out most likely courts take it that once your in you are in forever. Only way around this is to pass a constitutional amendment which allows states to leave after meeting certain legal requirements.

That was deliberate. The Union, going back to 1774 at least, was seen as perpetual. We refer to the Articles of Confederation but their full title was the "Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union." The Constitution says its purpose is to create a more perfect union, starting from the perpetual but largely unworkable union of the Articles. Basically, once you check in ...

Cleveland is the joke. Their river used to catch fire regularly. It's funny to use it as an example of a bad urban area. And words with a hard C or K sound are inherently funny.

Lol but seriously, if you were to somehow dismantle suburbia what do you plan to with the millions of people who are there.

Wasn't my stupid idea. Put them in the cities, where the price of housing will go up and make more people homeless i suppose.

I don't think one can unite a group of xenophobic racists with the people subject to the bigotry. It's like there's frankly multiple Americas that are not the same country but contained within the borders all based on if one is white or BIPOC and if person is Democrat or Republican.

Perpetual meant "without sunset clause", not "utterly invincible". The treaty between the US and the Lakotah regarding the Black Hills was perpetual, and it only took a couple years for them to find gold there, kick them off their land, and carve US presidents onto it, and that was only in the 1870s. Certainly, in TvW, the majority opinion was that secession could be legal in the case of revolution or consent of the other states.

The US is an unsustainable size as is, it's either do it peacefully or do it by force, and I'd prefer we do it the peaceful way. Empires eventually fall, it's just a natural fact of life, and struggling only makes it worse. Maybe I am being pessimistic but I don't want to take chances on the alternative. In any case, it would allow for greater economic diversity -- not just in industries, but there could easily be socialist states that don't get COINTELPRO'd if their people want it.
