You are assuming all warehouses are destroying stuff at the same rate. They may be shipping returns to just a few sites for destruction.

If they donated the stuff they could, with the tax write-offs they already get, the government would have to write them refund checks every year

They would ship it somewhere specific in the US or more likely a couple of places, but the calculation was based on every warehouse cranking out the same value of destruction.

Anything mass produced I can buy on Amazon I can buy elsewhere for a roughly similar price. I dont buy that they are creating market scarcity. I can guess at their reasoning, but it would be more along the lines of just cheaper to do than anything else
