Indoctrination at the collegiate level has always been a dogwhistle for conservatives. What it sounds like is if there are too many democrat professors and students; then obviously they are being indoctrinated and thus loose funding.

I suspect if the school was largely conservative and republican; there would be no funding cuts let alone threats.

Covid doesn't spread magically. It spreads mostly through the air when people are concentrated at the same place, especially indoors and if not wearing a mask. Political leaders can have a lot of positive or negative impact on the spread of the virus, by imposing mask mandates, closing schools and businesses, or helping them to install ventilation and hand sanitation systems, ... or he can make fun of those wearing masks, organize maskless indoor rallies, and tell people to drink bleach.
