The deal was the compromise bill and the $3.5 trillion package, if they don't have the votes for one they don't have the votes for either - even Pelosi has said this last I checked.

If her and Manchin are serious about opposing this then they've set back infrastructure negotiations back to square one and increase the possibility of fucking everyone out of getting anything done, and for what? Some vague posturing towards "spending bad" and "Republicans are our friends, actually"?

sanitation was also terrible. Women and non whites had almost no rights, and if you weren't royalty you had little money but yeah a truly great era.

Joe Manchin owns individual stock in the coal industry and has made over $400 million since joining congress. He doesn't want to hurt his profit.

The increasing polarization and disinformation around the Covid-19 vaccine has led to some people attempting to “disguise their appearance” and get vaccinated in secret, according to a Missouri doctor.

Dr Priscilla Frase, a hospitalist and chief medical information officer at Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains, said physicians had experienced a number of people who have asked to covertly receive the vaccine to avoid conflict with vaccine skeptical family, friends and co-workers.

In a video produced by Ozarks Healthcare, Frase said one pharmacist reported that several people: “Even went so far as to say: ‘Please, please, please don’t let anybody know that I got this vaccine.’”

The desire for privacy comes from a fear about how people will respond, Frase said. People who have changed their minds and decided to get the vaccine may have “had some experience that’s sort of changed their mind from the viewpoint of those in their family, those in their friendship circles or their work circles”, she said.

“They did their own research on it, and they talked to people and made the decisions themselves,” Frase added.

“But even though they were able to make that decision themselves, they didn’t want to have to deal with the peer pressure or the outbursts from other people about them, quote: ‘Giving in to everything.’”

Well, no. Cut slavery, sexism, poor sanitation and medicine, poor quality of living, industralization and the civil wars. Keep duels.

Yes, 3.5 is nearly triple 1.25. What is your point here? And I also think there's too much money being spent there and that some of it should be privatized

It's not like it's just spent for no return, investing in infrastructure creates jobs, supports businesses, makes things more efficient which further helps the economy..

The US is already spending too much money. Why not spend it in things that will actually contribute to improve society and boost the economy?

You do realize it’s 3.5 trillion spent over the course of a decade, whereas that trillion and a quarter is spent every single year, right?

And it is set to increase due to the often forgotten but is definitely a serious national security threat: climate change damaging or destroying US military assets.

Not as dramatically as it did in literature, no. But Dante expressed it best. In the United States it's easier to realize for most people as certain barriers are gone.

The last guy I met who was all gung ho for duels lost three straight to me in a sword fight with practice swords.

I have virtually no training in sword fighting.

I don’t think people yearning for duels have really thought their shit through. Or, you know, like…looked a community calendar or something to find a place you can sword fight and not die, or run around with pretendy guns and play soldier person and not die.

I’ll never understand people thinking it’d be cool to kill a person they’re beefing with.
