What role does NSG play in your life?

Hi all,

I'm a former shitposter here. You might remember, I used to take every possible opportunity to argue with Shofercia and allege that he had a sockpuppet account. About 3 years ago I cut NSG out of my life because I realized it was a massive waste of my time. This was, without a doubt, a great decision. In the time saved I've become a much more social and well-rounded person and have done much better academically. I only wish I had abandoned it earlier, so I may have made actual friends in my peer group at the time.

What brings me here today to ask if any of you have similar experiences. I am well aware that many of you are not 15-18 year olds like I was. So when it comes to your usage of NSG is it a healthy or unhealthy hobby? Do you think you could be doing something better? Do you somehow manage to balance shitposting with having a career and social life?

I've been on this site on-and-off since I was an angsty teenager with nothing better to do over a decade ago. Probably have made and abandoned dozens, if not hundreds, of countries over the years. I took a long break from it for a while but I come back to it every couple months to poke around. Now I'm a salty adult with a life and responsibilities who basically uses it as a time-waster / outlet for creative writing.

Meh, a place to communicate with online government nerdy friends. Also, a place to vent out lore ideas!

I have never thought of NSG that way before.

NationStates is a fun place to relax. I try to avoid negative influences in life and I love well-crafted political humor (especially North Korea jokes). Hence, I founded the Republic of Greater Liyue to:
1: Make a concept nation come to life
2: Laugh at hilarious political jokes without the toxic influences of any news media
3: Make a lot of North Korea jokes (their regime is so crazy that the jokes write themselves)

So I love the humor and lore of NationStates. It's a fairly wholesome environment. It makes me smile.

PS: Greater Liyue is not AU North Korea. Yes, we have their flag. The only similarities are the flag, military, and a couple "silly" culture laws I made to represent negative influences I didn't want in my life.

None.

I live happily without a terrible internet forum having an actual effect on my real life. Without NSG I am able to do the following:

- Go outside
- Touch grass
- Have fun
- Play games
- Have friends

I humbly suggest that other NSG users also stop so that they can also do these things listed above and perhaps many more.

It's like a crack addiction. I know it's terrible for me and will probably kill me in a few months, but I can't stay away from it.

I tend to come here when I plan to work on my dispatches or an RP post during my free time but don't actually want to do that.

Speaking of...

I took the family to the ocean yesterday. We swam, we sunburned, we had sushi for dinner.

NSG is the sole reason why I'm not a social butterfly and a captain of industry. It's for the best, a captain's hat is very heavy for a butterfly.

It’s something to pass the time. At first I did it because I like the “make your own nation” concept. Then it became bigger and it slowly became like I mentioned, something to do.

an outlet, like my 'art', like most things i do on the internet, for my wild concepts of how the world ought to be run.
i don't use 'social media' as such, just forums of focused interest and places to post my art and animation (fur affinity and vimeo)

my internet access is also somewhat limited, it comes with my rent, so i can't whine about this too much, but it does seem to have an absolute monthly data cap.
if it didn't, i'd probably be on the net any time of day or night i was home and not sleeping or making things.

nearly all of my 'art' illustrates what cameroi and nolo gap look like from on the ground as if you were there.

(my fur affinity account name is "themnax" as is what i go by, or have gone by, most places on the net. my vimeo can be linked from there)
