Hence why this won't go anywhere unless a majority of rural counties signed on. An exclave isn't going to happen. Even if a majority signed on the state government in Salem would never approve it.

If they don't like living in the state anymore move to Idaho. No one is keeping them there.

Only 3 of them are.

The other 2 would become exclaves.

Conservatives being snowflakes, as per usual. I don't expect this to go anywhere, though I'm sure the legal chaos that would ensue from Idaho suddenly gaining a bunch of random exclaves would be funny.

This article contains a map of their ultimate goal. However there is a problem with it. One of those counties is Jackson in the southern part of the state. Since 1964 only two democrats have won it. Clinton in 1992 with 38 percent and Obama in 2008 with 48 percent. since 2008 no candidate has gotten higher than 50.

The cities of Ashland and Medford are never going to go for becoming part of Idaho.

Sherman county population 1,780 and shrinking and who's pictures on wikipedia consisting of three grain elevators voting to leave Oregon makes me chuckle. I support the excalve that could never survive secession.

Their ultimate goal is to get almost all the red counties in Oregon to sign on. There would be no exclaves. Even if they achieved their goal Salem is never going to approve it.

It'd probably be better for everyone if they did tbh.

My feeling is if you dont like the politics of a state or province move to another that fits in better. These people should move to Idaho instead of trying to change boundaries.

Similar proposals have happened over the decades and none have gone anywhere and I have serious doubt this will lead to any border changes either.

Your thoughts NSG?

They are trying to move States they just don’t want to change locations.
And they do have a point, if a majority of voters in a county want to change then why should they be blocked from doing so?
As long as they remain with the Federation why should state boundaries be sacrosanct?

Not really. Why dont we breakup every state based on rural and urban lines by this logic? Make St Louis and Kansas City their own states?

Do the three C's in Idaho become their own?

Is that bad though? Why not split North and South California? Or maybe two Dakotas?

Also they’re not wanting their own state, they want to join a neighbouring state and thus will have no real impact on the Federal Totals

As always when conservatives start blithering about this nonsense, it only applies to them and what they want, they'll never give up the cities because that's where the money is, so those urban liberals in red states can just stfu and do what the REAL AMERICANS tell them.

They love to whip out those silly election maps showing how 'red' the country is, but prefer not to mention the fact that those 'tiny' blue areas are responsible for 70% of the nations GDP in addition to most of the people.

Similar thing is at vote here in MN, for northern rural counties to break off an become part of SD. As far as I know, the resolution is not very popular with the majority of northern Minnesotans

This is ridiculous but in a pathetic way. Then again, anyone familiar with Oregon knows that the deep political polarization, the clash of urban and rural would lead to something like this, a pretty useless attempt at change that's going to get nowhere.

Or how about not be petty and move to Idaho or another state entirely. This whole thing is about losing election after election because they can’t work with the other side.

Democracy doesn’t work in this manner. You don’t get to change boundaries or pack up and leave when things don’t go your way.

I guess I understand the sentiment, but that's not how Democracy generally works.

If both states in question agree to the terms I imagine it's fine, otherwise the farmers are just gonna have to love it or leave it, as they say.
