It might be a bit difficult because while some Hindu deities have counterparts in other Indo-European pantheons (such as Indra), most temples nowadays are devoted to ones who don't (such as Shiva, Vishnu, or Durga).

That would be a good idea. Since I can't afford an altar right now, I usually research genealogy and make donations to make merit for ancestral spirits.

While I'm not Pagan... Why did you feel the need to come into this thread and start saying people should believe in science?

That's like going into the Christian and Islam thread saying that everyone should believe in science for no reason.

Atheism, for all it's lack of faith, sure has a lot of evangelists.

Because atheism in North America has a very specific and rigid philosophy built on positivism and rationalism, as well as a grudge against evangelicalism which ironically ends up imitating it.

Could you expand on what it means to make merit for ancestral spirits?

Portions of karmic merit which are made from good deeds can be devoted to deceased loved ones who are in the ghost world and allow them to be reborn in heaven.

everyone's in their own circle, but i've probably seen the most about hellenistic gods and wicca, but that's definitely influenced by where i was looking

My mother and I where filling out the Canada census and it got to religions and I froze. I'd been hiding my (very mild) paganism for a long time now, and, while I am willing to lie to my family, I am not willing to lie to the government. After a long discussion (in which she doubted my faith to my face) she put down pagan, nothing more specific than that. Interestingly, she took a much longer time trying to figure out what to put for herself, but that is not relevant.

Since then I've had a boost in confidence, despite my «unorthodox» beliefs.

On that topic, I consider my self primarily Roman. I heard, and this may be misinformation, that the Romans believed that foreign gods were just as real as Roman ones, and that has been a sticking point for me. I am currently trying my best to synchronize most foreign polytheist ideas into my beliefs from a Roman perspective because I cannot believe that one culture is the only one to know truth about the gods. Sometimes I feel bad, that I am participating in cultural appropriation and I try my best to be careful. I actually consider Amaterasu, a Japanese deity, to be one of the most important (I am trying to clarify the line between her and Apollo).

I don't think the gods have real names, nor do I think one way of worship is better than another. They appreciate worship, whatever form it comes in. I know more about the Roman way so that is what I practice, to the pest of my abilities.

I also have tried my best to assimilate the Japanese idea of Kami and the First Nations idea of a spiritual connection to the land and to nature. Shamanism and Animism are very interesting and has had a noticeable benefit for my mental health. I feel more important and connected than before. I really want to learn more but that has proven difficult.

I have faith but I wouldn't say I necessarily believe anything. I practice because it brings me patience and tranquility. It makes me feel better to at least pretend to be heard by a higher power, or Kami, or anything; weather I believe this is not the point for me. That is why I consider myself atheist sometimes. But, in general, I am pagan, because that is the faith I express.

Frankly, I have a lot learn. That is what I love most about these so-called lost religions.

This is what you're referring to, I believe?

The Greeks and Romans often did try to compare foreign deities to their own. Thor, for example, was interpreted as either Jupiter or Hercules by the Romans due to the similarities he possessed with both figures. 'Same god, different name' was how they approached it.
