We assume one, yes, but mostly because it's progressive, continuous change with many intermediate states. In your scenario there is no intermediate state, the current me will be destroyed and replaced by something totally different.

this is like saying the current you is destroyed and replaced by something totally different if you get in a car crash or trip and hit your head, just go w the premise instead of going on about teleportation problem-adjacent nonsense for like four pages :p the point is that some intangible "you" has been moved from one skull to another and it's not worth overthinking how that would "actually" work bc this isn't actually happening

anyways, I'd do it. sounds interesting, definitely not the worst way I could spend a couple decades, and it would definitely clarify my career options/objectives afterwards (commentating, coaching, or showbiz; pick two).

The OP is quite clear that it's not "you" being teleported to the skull of an Olympic athlete, but your whole childhood being rewritten, which means it'll no longer be "you". That's the core of the hypothesis.

And those kind of philosophical thinking about the nature of personality and consciousness is more interesting to me than sports which I don't care the slightest about ;)

I think of it more as just forgetting your old childhood and going through a new one, who's to say when you die and go to IM Thread Heaven you won't remember all of it :p

well it didn't specify the sport, are you allowed to pick one you like? if this is all for like discus or bobsled or something then I'm out

But I am the produce of my childhood. My current personality, my world view, my tastes and dreams and feelings and desires are all the result of having the childhood I had. With a different childhood there wouldn't be much left of "me".

I dislike all professional sports and competitions. The sports I like are more of "nature sports" (ie, hiking, nordic skying, archery, ...) and even those only when done in non-competitive ways.

A new childhood that the OP specifies would be "destroyed", which -- to me -- implies new and shitty parents because my parents would never have been willing to put me through that kind of hell.

I never met a competitive sport I liked, so -- for me -- it's a no-brainer.

I like walking, yoga, things that aren't events

Sure. Why not?

I don’t see that as contradicting the intended trade offs of the hypothetical. Any particular sport in mind?

Another poster mentioned running. I like the idea of tennis or ping pong.
