It's sarcasm, ma'am. If I'm impugning the honesty of American intelligence, it means the CIA

Except for all the cases where young men have come forward and said Taliban fighters gang raped them. Or all the women their fighters rape regularly.

Well they did have some WMDs at various points but they were destroyed before the Iraq war, including a lot of chemical weapons factories that the US and Germany definitely weren't involved in setting up because they just told Iraq how to make fertiliser that could coincidentally could be made into chemical weapons. There was also a prototype of one of Gerald Bull's giant cannons but that was destroyed and the full size one was seized by UK customs and excise because they realised what it was.

My guy do you really want to die on this hill?

Do you sincerely believe that the Taliban are heroes or are you just saying these things to get a reaction?

"Well, actually, it was the religious leaders of Afghanistan, whom I met on a visit who pleaded with me to try and get intervention to stop this practice. Then when I met with NGOs, they also confirmed that such a practice exists. Strangely, the Taliban had actually eradicated the practice. But it had come back again and many of the warlords and commanders of the different groups were having baccha bazis."

"The Taliban had a deep aversion towards bacha bazi, outlawing the practice when they instituted strict nationwide sharia law. According to some accounts, including the hallmark Times of London article “Kandahar Comes out of the Closet” in 2002, one of the original provocations for the Taliban’s rise to power in the early 1990s was their outrage over pedophilia. Once they came to power, bacha bazi became taboo, and the men who still engaged in the practice did so in secret."

"When the former mujahideen commanders ascended to power in 2001 after the Taliban’s ouster, they brought with them a rekindled culture of bacha bazi."

And yet "rape" and "Taliban" are still functionally synonyms and it's a regular part of their occupation of an area. Strange, that.

"The practice of bacha bazi is known throughout Afghanistan but is particularly notorious in Kandahar. The Taliban originally came to prominence in Kandahar when they intervened in a fight between two pedophile warlords over the possession of a coveted dancing boy. The Taliban also oppose the practice, and banned it when they were in power."

"Omar started his movement with less than 50 armed madrassah students who were simply known as the Taliban (Pashtun for 'students'). His recruits came from madrassas located in Afghanistan and the Afghan refugee camps which were located across the border in Pakistan. They fought against the rampant corruption which had emerged during the civil war period and were initially welcomed by Afghans who were weary of warlord rule. Apparently, Omar became sickened by the abusive raping of children by warlords and turned against their authority in the mountainous country of Afghanistan from 1994 onwards.[59]"

Hey Chess Guys justify the mass rape and murder of women that has been going on for years at the hands of the Taliban.

The thing is I don't trust boy trafficking rings (police) and activists (a euphemism for pro government partisans). Reason is I know a woman from there who was an NGO and her experiences with the Taliban completely shocked her and made her religious when she was non practicing before. She's a career woman too. I never see western sources give ink to pro Taliban people, just pro regime activists who have been caught lying again and again. Just recently regimists published a picture of women in prison with Taliban in front saying they were sex slaves. As it turned out it was a government prison and the Taliban were freeing the women. The woman I know said she was constantly sexually harassed by everyone there (she didn't wear hijab) until the Taliban who didn't even look at her, lowering their gaze. Yvonne Ridley (who was very hostile during her captivity and didn't convert until long after her release) tells a similar story. The more I talk to actual people there the more I realize western media is akin to Soviet media

Amnesty International has quite happily condemned the actions of the US, the Afghan Government, and the Taliban. They don't pull their punches and will report on anything anywhere that they can get evidence.

Now I would like some links to back up your claims.

As a reminder:

"women were not allowed to work, they were not allowed to be educated after the age of eight"

"The Taliban allowed and in some cases encouraged marriage for girls under the age of 16."

"On September 30, 1996, the Taliban decreed that all women should be banned from employment."

"When a Taliban raid discovered a woman running an informal school in her apartment, they beat the children and threw the woman down a flight of stairs (breaking her leg) and then imprisoned her. They threatened to stone her family publicly if she refused to sign a declaration of loyalty to the Taliban and their laws."

"Her ears and nose were cut off and she was left for dead in the mountains, but survived."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taliban ... t_of_women

This isn't even stuff the Taliban denies doing and are things they say they want to bring back.

Do you have any other sources than "My friend said so"?

But that's literally all that is used as a source. Afghans. You read an article, it uses anonymous Afghans. It's just a question of selection. Now I don't expect you to take me any more seriously than these journalists or whatever, rather I urge you to talk to Afghans living over there who have actually dealt with the Taliban.

This isn't even stuff the Taliban denies doing and are things they say they want to bring back.

Ain't no one denying they heavily restricted what social liberalism especially for women. The question is it I can trust agents of Kabul and it's frankly hard for me because I have found them lying so much. A lot of these sources are by people highly partisan to the Northern Alliance which engages in rampant rape and sex trafficking but they are silent on this. Why? How can I trust them? When I talk to actual Afghans and their stories line up with the Taliban account, can I trust the news industry which is tasked with churning out justification for American war with lucrative contracts or refugee status and white house invites to anyone who writes compelling propaganda? I frankly have no reason to take it seriously when the humble people who make nothing say different. But any woman gives a different narrative is dismissed as crazy or otherwise gaslit

This would be a valid argument, if:

A. I had enough money/time to actually go to Afghanistan. Not everyone is Bill Gates

B. The fact that news articles use Afghans combined with documents and on-the-ground reporting

C. The fact that one of these people is clearly suffering from Stockholm Syndrome (Yvonne Ridley)

D. The fact that lowering their gaze is not because of respect, but because they believe they are commiting sin (or something of that nature, I don't know the exact term/usage for it in Islam) by looking at a woman without a Hijab

E. The fact that sexual harrassment is most likely an overstatement. Catcalling is very common in western culture, and is a consequence of allowing women to dress how they want.

F. The fact that you haven't used any sources except your friends, which casts doubt on if these friends are even real, or if your picking and choosing the specific friends that support your viewpoint
