The Democratic Republic of Congo is a large nation in Central Africa, home to the city that holds the title for most French speakers, their capital, Kinshasa. The country is majority Christians, but like many Christian majority nations in Africa, it has a significant and rapidly growing Muslim population. It has repeated come under attack by DAESH (ISIS) and other terrorist groups. Since the 90s, terrorists and other rebel groups have operated in the country, especially in the Eastern part of the country. Those groups have now taken another casualty: Sheikh Ali Amini.
Amini was an outspoken critic of these terrorist groups. While praying evening prayers in a mosque in Beni, a gunman shot him, and was able to get away as he had come with a companion who had a motorcycle. This is first of such a killing to occur in Beni.
The Muslim community in the nation is reeling in the face of the attack, as Congolese people wonder how much worse it can get.
