I did exactly that when I had a massive brainfart and miscalculated how much gas I had in my tank and ran out 10 miles outside of the nearest town. Cop came over, brought me to the closest gas station, let me run inside to grab a gas can, fill it up, and brought me back to my car.

Thank goodness I didn't have to call a second time, I guess.

You really should watch the tape because there's a lot of context missing from the earliest reports. The guy threatened to kill his brother and was very unclear about whether he was armed or not. The cops should not have shot the guy, but they did have legitimate reason to think they were dealing with a domestic violence situation.

I don't know about anyone else, but if I didn't have a gun and a cop was shouting at me to drop my gun (especially if that cop is prepared for an incident but to you there's nothing that would call for that), I'd probably be confused enough to not say "I don't have a gun" for at least a bit. Throw in being on a 911 call, and I can see how someone wouldn't tell a cop telling them to drop a non-existent gun that they don't have a gun until it's too late.

Still strikes me as a very odd situation, and not one that needed lethal force (or at least that much lethal force) even if I'm as generous to the officer as possible.

The deputy directly said the “”gun”” was not being pointed at him. Why would his life be in danger by a guy pointing a “”gun”” at his own head? How does a deputy shooting an unarmed man who never pointed any kind of weapon at him deserve the benefit of the doubt here?

The dispatcher is confused, since his car was broken down and towed. Isaiah than threatens to kill his brother, dispatcher says "don't do that", asks why he would say that. Later, dispatcher asks Isaiah if he has a gun, he says “yup.” The dispatcher then asks, “you have a gun on you?” and Isaiah replies, “nope.” The dispatcher asks a third time if he has any weapons on him and Isaiah says, “nope.”
This is about when the officer arrives.
He's walking down the street with the phone. Still on the phone with the dispatcher.
Dispatcher tells him to raise his hands. Officer yells "hands up", "show me your hands", "drop the gun" (multiple times)
Isaiah, who doesn't have a gun, doesn't drop it.
In the video, the deputy says “he’s got a gun to his head. Drop the gun now and stop walking towards me.”

Shooting someone several times because they had a ""gun"" (and how exactly does one get a fucking phone confused for a gun) to their head literally serves no purpose. Isaiah's previous behaviour and statements is reason for being a bit catious maybe, but not shooting him several times.

Very true because the best way to deal with a person who you think is pointing a gun at THEIR OWN HEAD is to do them the service of finishing the job for them - it is certainly a great way to reduce the national suicide rate - its not suicide if the cops pull the trigger is it?
