Surely the good law project is interested in all aspects of upholding good law and standards in government and not just a narrow selection of intrests that only align with the founder's political persuasion?

NI abortion: Givan vows to resist commissioning order

First Minister Paul Givan has vowed to resist the government order forcing Stormont to commission abortion services in Northern Ireland.

He warned he was prepared to go to court to block the move and said he was currently taking legal advice.

NI Secretary Brandon Lewis has directed Stormont to set up full abortion services by no later than next March.

He also directed the first and deputy first ministers to allow the plans to be put to the executive for approval.

The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) has blocked a similar move in the past.

Mr Givan, a DUP assembly member, told BBC News NI he was prepared to defy that order from the secretary of state and has not ruled out blocking any proposal on commissioning abortion services from the executive agenda.

He said to issue a direction on abortion services had "profound constitutional ramifications and to do it on this issue leads to the obvious question, will he do it on other issues?"

"It is my intention to resist what the secretary of state has done by way of direction and I have to look at all my options both politically and legally," he said.

"The secretary of state may have to take me to court" for refusing to follow his direction, he added.

Mr Givan also said he had yet to discuss his future as first minister with the DUP leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson who has said he planned to take on the role when he returns to Stormont.

The first minister said he worked with the party leader on a daily basis and his focus was on the "day-to-day decisions of the executive".

"I am not looking beyond that," he added.

The Majority of people in NI support Abortion services being legalised and implemented as do the majority of parties in the assembly, stop this nonsense.

BBC: University students will get "advance warning" if they are required to have vaccines before moving to halls of residence, Dominic Raab has said.

Will they fuck, Mr Raab. Most unis will have started up again in 8 weeks from now, meaning “advance warning” for anyone who hasn’t already had – or has only just had – their first jab will be no help at all.

The government’s strategy here is fairly plain to see. They’ve been accused plenty of times of doing nothing to stop covid, and everyone knows for politicians being accused of doing nothing is worse than being accused of doing something terrible. So they look at which demographics they can give a thorough shafting for the sake of doing something, they realise they’re never going to get most young people to vote for them, least of all students, and hey presto suddenly we have nightclubs and universities singled out for draconian “papers please” fuckery and institutional segregation.

Alas, I remain unsurprised.

I imagine it's a "rile the base up" tactic.

Make a bunch of hot air over the hot button topics your voters get really angry at, and maybe you'll rile them up enough that you can reduce how hard you get hit in the polls.

You should be careful to fully evaluate what they do because there is a political motive and decide on an issue by issue basis how valid what they say is. You can't take it at face value without doing a little bit of your own research. Sometimes it will be upholding the law and sometimes the temptation deviate from objective ideals will be too strong.

Drugs deaths in Scotland soar to record level

Country has Europe’s worst drugs death rate, more than three-and-a-half times higher than rest of UK

Drugs deaths in Scotland have hit a new record after 1,339 people died last year from overdoses or the cumulative effects of years of addiction.

National Records of Scotland, the statistics agency, said the figure was a 5% increase on the drugs-related fatalities registered in 2019. The country continues to have the worst drug death rate in Europe with an age-standardised death rate in 2020 of 25.2 per 100,000 people, more than three-and-a-half times higher than the rest of the UK. It is the seventh annual increase in a row.

The agency said the number of drugs deaths last year was 4.5 times the level recorded in 2000, with men 2.7 times more likely to die than women. Many died from taking a cocktail of drugs: more than one substance was found in the bodies of 93% of those who died.

The average age of drugs-related fatalities had increased from 32 to 43 over the past 20 years, implying that years of addiction was a leading cause of death. Almost two-thirds of those who died last year were aged 35-54.

In another stark statistic, it said people from the most deprived parts of Scotland were 18 times more likely to die from drugs than those in the wealthiest neighbourhoods.

Angela Constance, Scotland’s drugs policy minister, who was appointed last year after her predecessor was sacked, said these deaths were “heart-breaking”. She said the Scottish government, which has been run by the Scottish National party for 14 years, was putting £250m into tackling the crisis over the next five years. That included £100m on providing residential rehabilitation services, £18m on outreach services, and £13.5m for alcohol and drugs partnerships.

It's a bit cringe and the accent doesn't help (good try tho, I'd do worse), but it's relatable.

I've always wanted to get these thoughts out, and this seems like an OK opportunity to do so. It's not directly related to whatever you guys are talking about right now, but it's still kind of on topic, because 2nd Scottish Indy ref is a relevant-ish talking point.

As a Lithuanian, for as long as I've known about Scottish history, I've found the Scottish struggle kind of relatable. During the time of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Poland also tried to erase Lithuanian language and culture. Fortunately, before they could do that, PLC got partitioned by bigger fish. It's kind of nice when your bully has bigger bullies who bullies them. (Of course, Russia also tried to erase us, but they don't go around pretending to be friends either).

Unfortunately for Scotland, there haven't been many nations to bully England. Plus, you're stuck on an island with them.

Similarly to Scotland-England, Poland also tries to brush off the past and wants to be friends with Lithuania. When we have any issues with that, we're told we have inferiority complex or small dick energy. I've seen similar types of exchanges when Scots and English talk about Scottish independence.

Don't get me wrong though - overall, I think a fracturing Europe is bad for everyone in Europe, and very lovely for Putin. However, Scotland didn't start the fire! It's UK who fractured themselves off of EU, and Scotland just wishes to return things to normal. So I completely understand and empathise with pro-indy Scots. ♥

Sorry if this is off-topic though. :/
