I hate to say it, but there's no point in attempting deescalation in Gaza in the absence of a peace settlement. All efforts to deescalate and all gestures of good will in the past thirty or so years have tended to lead to upticks in violence from local Palestinian militants, most notably in the case of Israel's disengagement policy. The optimum way to ensure Israeli security in the absence of a functioning peace process is to make Hamas and other militant groups wholly incapable of waging unconventional warfare by destroying all infrastructure, munitions, and arms, picking apart the command structures, and demoralizing the civilian population to such an extent that they don't have the will to fight.

Demoralizing the civilian population by doing everything short of marching them into death camps.

This is a nonsensical hyperbole. The civilian population of Gaza is arguably still doing better than the civilian population of Syria or Yemen in terms of material well-being. What's happening to them is a consequence of unconventional warfare between a state actor and non-state actors, not a genocide.

With regard to East Jerusalem, one could call the expulsion of Palestinians ethnic cleansing. That said, it's weird that the media are calling the Israelis who want to settle there in their place "settlers" when they're probably the children or grandchildren of the people Jordan expelled from the same neighborhoods seventy years ago. Anyhow, that's likely going to wind up as another Intifada - so think protests, demonstrations, terror attacks, unconventional warfare, riot control, police brutality, ethnic cleansing, and war crimes.

They bombed infrastructure with direct ties to Hamas and that had been one of many staging point in rocket attacks that killed two Israelis. No Palestinian civilians were killed in the process because they were warned in advance to evacuate. It's still nicer than what Assad did to Aleppo or the Houthis did to Sana'a.

As WRA pointed out earlier, there’s not a lot of ways to verify whether the IDF is telling the truth that a given civilian building is actually a secret weapons storehouse or not. The reality is they’re lobbing heavy weapons into a populated urban environment with minimal or no warning for people in the targeted areas; in practice it’s as much a terror bombing campaign against the people of Gaza as it is an effort to defend Israel (Iron Dome usually does a perfectly good job with rocket attacks and there’s almost no other way Hamas can actually strike Israel).
