April 20th, 2020.

That day was a special day in Nationstates history.

At 12:00 that day, youtuber Drew Durnil posted a video talking about nationstates.

Soon, about 50,000 nations were created, crashing the game.

This crash was dubbed the “drewpocalypse”.

Now, this is its first anniversary.

Happy drew day to the thousands of nations which are still here.

Huh never knew it was from April 20th. Anyways I do appreciate all nations that came from drew durnil. I’m actually surprised that they never got banned and even if they didn’t got banned it’s not like the owners of these nations would care less about them. They likely CTE like a few months ago because the large majority of these nations are probably little kids.

Happy 1 year anniversary to the thousands of new players that Drew Durnil brought to NS, I hope it's been a good year for you all. :)

Wow, it has been a year since he got me on here, huh? Too bad he stopped making anything even remotely like what got me here in the first place.

Can somebody please explain the Drewpocalypse to me? I don't really know that much about it.

A YouTuber named Drew Durnil made a video about NationStates, causing a massive influx of new players which posed a detriment to the site's function.

Ah yes, I remember those days. The server crashed twice due to him making two videos about the game, and the number of people playing the game doubled almost overnight. However, almost all of those people have CTE'd, but a few have stayed, and are now established nations in the community.

(Drew Durnil comes to mind.)

Is that what happened? I thought it was some kind of DDoS attack. Cool that it was actually an influx of real people wanting to join.

I saw the videos, I just don't understand why this is a big event. Why would people celebrate this?

Personally, I still remember the traumatic feelings of horrific lags and cataclysmic server shutdowns, so yeah.
