The South Africa of the 1920s was just as racist as the South Africa of the 1950s. The the flag was created by British Imperialists in Africa, who left a legacy of white supremacy and racism up and down the continent.

Pass laws (badges and other such items that black men would be required to carry or wear) have existed since the days of Company rule under the dutch, and continued to be expanded and refined up until the end of Apartheid. Segregation had existed since the first stones were placed for the Castle with whites, blacks, coloureds, and the newly arriving Malay forced to live in seperate spaces that would also continue to expand into laws until formalised in 1948 with the creation of the system of Apartheid. Apartheid was an awful and horrific system, but it's roots trace back to the arrival of Europeans in South Africa and it's more formalised wording taken from other colonies like Kenya and Rhodesia.

The term "Anglo-Saxon" is somewhat useful for historical discussions of pre-Norman England, and, really, I would prefer we not engage in that level of erasure simply because the terms has acquired a lot of unsavory connotations.

I don't think even most white Americans have English heritage in general, let alone specifically Anglo-Saxon ancestry. German is the dominate background for whites in America these days.

Reminder that polling back in the 2000s found that something like 60% of South Africans wanted Apartheid back lol.

I would like a source for that, because it sounds hard to believe that 60% of South Africa's population wants Apartheid back, when only 7.9% of the population is white, with only a quarter of whites wanting apartheid.

I think much of us lost our culture for some reason, as many of us are of mixed European heritage. I have Irish and German ancestry, but I have been "Americanized."
