Why do people constantly use italics?

So, I was looking through NS forums when I saw utah trolling. "Oh well", must be another troll, better look. Sure enough it was, and even worse: he had the facts all wrong! Anyway, I saw the mod put some skeptic link, in italic. This same dude I've seen before, he puts italics on a ton of stuff. So I looked even further and saw people using italics even more. So NSG, why do these people put italics everywhere and does it mean something?

I would be sarcastic, but that might be accused of flamebaiting. So: it is to emphasize stuff or point stuff out in quotes.

No, I mean when they use Italics for every last word of their every last sentance.
Person: "Inserts political opinion"
Italics guy: "Oh, im so sorry I forgot that blah blah blah sarcastic stuff"

Holy crp though this thing you had is crazy.

"It's not time yet" is a tactic used by reactionaries in every era. "It's not time for democracy, it's not time for capitalism, it's not time for emancipation." Of course it's not time. It's never time, not on its own. You make it time. If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

Do you know where that is from? Or did you make it yourself- if so that is crazy.

You must have seen how I respond to reports, then. It's funny, come to think of it: when I was still an ordinary player making reports to Moderation, I would on occasion italicize the report text linking to suspicious content; the report text would either be a simple "this is sus, please have a Mod take a look" or something more deadpan. This I more or less kept when I became a Mod, as one may see from my responses to reports posted in Moderation.

Yes, actually, but int he limites 3 minutes I have before I need to go to school, I coulfn't find my evidence. Also its worth adding While you dont do it for all posts I see other people frequently do it. You, as a mod may have seen a bunch of nasty things to delete on NS, so I ask you if you have seen similar?

I didn't make it myself but I think I stand with what it says. I cannot remember the original creators name unfortunately.

I mean, books and literatures (whether academic or fiction) do often employ italics to emphasize stuff. Bold or underline are less aesthetical, I guess.

I use it for emphasis on certain words. I use it in a manner as if I was reading it out loud, i.e. talking to someone in conversation, where I will change the inflection of the way I say certain words to add emphasis. For example, the italics in this sample sentence make it clear where I am changing how I am saying it for emphasis: It is not what we say that matters, but rather how we say it.

It was a quote by Conserative Morality, a CTE'd nation. It was so good that I archived it in my Book of Quotes.

I use italics to for emphasis or to help convey tone on select words, or, paired with quote marks, for short quotes from an external source (long quotes call for a quote-box on NS).

Keep in mind though that on previous occasions that Mods have said that overusing zalgo text is treated as spam, so just something to take note of.

Most of the time for emphasis. ("I did not tell you to do that"), and other times, at least on my screen, it looks nice with my custom appearance settings and all on Firefox.

Italics can mean emphasis, lighthearted / sarcastic remarks, or just to quote someone (not the NS quote, like "I said this" - Random guy).
