Has anyone ever tried to quantify shooters' motives? I ask just because a commonly accepted threshold for whether a country is in a civil war is 25 battle deaths per year, and at the clip we're going at, mass shootings easily take many more lives than that each year in the US-- so if we can attribute at least 25 of those deaths to ideologically-aligned actors of some stripe, that might change how we view the current political conflict in the country. I have a pet theory that we basically already have an atomized insurgency of socially isolated young, mostly white men, not necessarily acting in coordination but with similar digital mobilization patterns, similar motives, and similar behavior and attack patterns, but I don't actually have a data set that could quantify this and prove my assumptions correct or incorrect.

So, just so you know, the vast majority of mass shootings are associated with gang activity, not random nutballs.

Same is true in Mexico, and I'd say that's reached civil war proportions of violence too. We really are the northernmost country of Latin America tbh

I have a Proud Cuban Republican Trump supporter friend in Chicago, married to a Mexican Lady, they have a daughter. He drives to Mexico from time to time, to visit his Mexican family in Mexico, he has never had any problems with Mexican Gangs and his Family in Mexico has never had any problems with Mexican Gangs? He is actually related to my family through an ancestor of mine. We have known him and his Cuban family in Chicago for many years, spent all Christmas es and New Years at their big house in Chicago and consider them family, and we did not know that we are related, until one day we talked about our families.

It's not that facts themselves are partisan - it's that the underlying causes of these facts are, on average, chalked up to issues that more liberal politics seek to rectify, such as the black prison population, which is due to underlying causes in systemic racism. In fact, right wing memes and posters are likely to make up facts, such as the (debunked) claim that despite only making up 13% of the US population, blacks commit 50% of all murders and 90% of all violent interracial crime. Black people, in a 2013 study, commit 38% of murders - however this is ultimately because of living in impoverished areas in cities such as Chicago or Detroit, cities with the second- and third-largest black population, respectively (after New York). A study from Villanova University showed that poverty, not race, was more of a deciding in factor in violent crime and that expanded welfare programs showed a notable decrease in violent crime.
