Re-reading the last few threads, to the point when the insurrection on the 6th was taking place actively, and seeing all of your live reactions, it made me remember the fear. I thought we'd have collapsed into a civil war. We didn't, but it really has challenged my views on authoritarianism.

If I was in support of the "SAFE and SECURE SOCIETY" view, I can assure you, if I ever get to that, slap me in the face virtually. I will always stand behind democracy. Hopefully.

Democracy triumphs again. I'd argue this will help bring the ideas of criminal justice reform to the front table; so instead, we don't lock up people over smoking weed, and we fight for the rehabilitation programs.

Kenneth R. Hubert, 63, of Marionville, Missouri, pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of threatening to assault a U.S. official, according to court documents.

Hubert acknowledged that he left a voicemail at Cleaver’s office in Independence, Missouri, on Jan. 7. After calling Cleaver, who is Black, a racial slur, he said, “How about a noose around his neck?,” according to the documents.

We knew a pandemic was coming. We actually had plans to deal with said pandemic, created under Obama. We knew about the possibility of a pandemic at least as far back as January, and I think there was news that we knew as far back as December. Trump took no action.

I mean, he pleaded guilty, he should go to jail, probably for at least five years due to the guilty plea, possibly ten given the president being threatened gets five, and this is for the threat alone. Depending on many factors this could be a hate crime(assuming it was about Cleaver's race), which may land an additional couple years, and a few more if he also made similar comments(which would also have to be racist) against Cohen.

Point is we knew before this was a pandemic that it existed. We knew it had the possibility of becoming a pandemic. Trump had months to act, at least 3 of them and if we knew in November we had at least 5 months. Trump did not act in those months, and so it became a pandemic. Then not only did he fail to act, he made things worse by spreading misinformation, everything from this will all be over in a month and is nothing special to pushing bunk cures, to opposing lockdowns. Practically every single one of Trump's decisions when it came to the pandemic was wrong.
