The United States said Thursday it was providing another $152 million to prevent potential famine in Ethiopia's conflict-hit Tigray region as it urged unhindered access.

The US Agency for International Development said the funding brought the total US contribution for Tigray to $305 million and that the contributions, along with a US team on the ground, would support food, water, shelter and medical care to more than three million people.

The agency urged other donors to step up contributions "immediately," pointing to UN warnings that "there could be a risk of famine."

"The United States remains deeply concerned about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Tigray and the lack of sufficient humanitarian funding to address it," it said in a statement.

"Large-scale assistance is urgently needed to prevent conditions in Tigray from worsening."

State Department spokesman Ned Price called for "full and unhindered access" to Tigray.

"It is absolutely critical for the humanitarian community to not only scale up its response but also to ensure that that humanitarian assistance is reaching the people in need," Price told reporters.

Such a weapon would destroy the economies of nations which currently rely on sea trade since it would deny them the use of the sea. Long stretches of useful coastline plus those important metro areas where the shipping lanes start and end would become unusable for decades if not longer. Entire navies would no longer have ports to dock at. The world economy would be wrecked.

They’ll say whatever they want to justify Poseidon and Avangard and the like, the reality is it’s just weapons development following its logical course, not that there’s any pressing need for new ways to vaporize each other en masse.

Russia has gone and invented the Poseidon Drone. Found about this today. Did not even know something like this existed. It was invented in 2015. Its a very long torpedo which a 200 megaton nuke. The largest ever nuke tested was done by Russia and it was 50 megatons. This torpedo when its set off is supposed to generate a 500 meter (1500 ft.) Tsumani. Has an extra surprise the Russians made this weapon highly radioactive which means the Tsunami is highly radioactive.

The weapons research is pretty much done, we know how to make H-bombs of pretty much any size (obviously they still have to design new ones when they build new weapons but u get the pt)— a lot of the cutting edge stuff that’s being done to develop stuff like Poseidon or hypersonics is propulsion and materials science.

As for nuclear disarmament... it’s certainly a beautiful dream.

Isn't Ethiopia in civil war right now, I recall hearing word of conflict in the Tigray area of Ethiopia and probably beyond.

It'll never happen, we have nukes, we have nuclear power and the chances of actually using them are very small. Without it, the wars after WWII would have been far bigger grandiose and possibly worse.

The world isn’t exactly stable. Major powers expanding, dictators, terrorism, etcetera. Many will say we are effectively in a Cold War state with various rival countries. The worst thing we could do is disarm ourselves and say to our enemy “you won’t do it”. That is thoughtless, negligent, and egoistically presumptuous.
