The United States said Thursday it was providing another $152 million to prevent potential famine in Ethiopia's conflict-hit Tigray region as it urged unhindered access.
The US Agency for International Development said the funding brought the total US contribution for Tigray to $305 million and that the contributions, along with a US team on the ground, would support food, water, shelter and medical care to more than three million people.
The agency urged other donors to step up contributions "immediately," pointing to UN warnings that "there could be a risk of famine."
"The United States remains deeply concerned about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Tigray and the lack of sufficient humanitarian funding to address it," it said in a statement.
"Large-scale assistance is urgently needed to prevent conditions in Tigray from worsening."
State Department spokesman Ned Price called for "full and unhindered access" to Tigray.
"It is absolutely critical for the humanitarian community to not only scale up its response but also to ensure that that humanitarian assistance is reaching the people in need," Price told reporters.

Putin’s geopolitical fears about NATO and the west are one thing, but it’s another to say NATO is actually capable of or interested in neutralizing the Russian military in one fell swoop. They’ll say whatever they want to justify Poseidon and Avangard and the like, the reality is it’s just weapons development following its logical course, not that there’s any pressing need for new ways to vaporize each other en masse.Russia has gone and invented the Poseidon Drone. Found about this today. Did not even know something like this existed. It was invented in 2015. Its a very long torpedo which a 200 megaton nuke. The largest ever nuke tested was done by Russia and it was 50 megatons. This torpedo when its set off is supposed to generate a 500 meter (1500 ft.) Tsumani. Has an extra surprise the Russians made this weapon highly radioactive which means the Tsunami is highly radioactive.
This video explains it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIW5EKhubj4
200Mt is the sticker value from Moscow, anyways, in reality it’d likely be lower (though still terrifyingly huge).

Such a weapon would destroy the economies of nations which currently rely on sea trade since it would deny them the use of the sea. Long stretches of useful coastline plus those important metro areas where the shipping lanes start and end would become unusable for decades if not longer. Entire navies would no longer have ports to dock at. The world economy would be wrecked.

Unfortunately, it is probably too late to close that particular Pandora's Box. Nobody is willing to do it because nobody else will, and anyone who does not has an advantage over the others who have that they'd definitely use as a threat. It's basically like a bunch of branches all balanced on each other, disturbing it would disrupt the balance.
No nukes would almost certainly be preferable, though. I'm just not sure how it would be accomplished.

Federal investigators are probing Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for yet another reason: an alleged conversation between the Florida Republican and a well-connected lobbyist, Chris Dorworth, about running a sham third-party candidate in a 2020 race for the Florida State Senate so as to draw votes from the opponent of a Gaetz ally, The New York Times reports. A third-party candidate, Jestine Ianotti, did run in the race, but her final vote tally did not exceed the difference between the two others. Jason Brodeur, a political ally of Gaetz, won the race. That piece of the inquiry into Gaetz has only just begun, according to the Times. Dorworth said he did not remember the exchange and had never met Ianotti.

I feel like a lot of the Republican Party are just former frat boys angry that life isn't as fun as High School, and that the nerds are in power.

Nuclear disarmament is a utopian fantasy. Once the nuclear genie was let out of his bottle back in the day there’s no putting him back in. Ever.

Because no one has the will to do it. No country is suddenly going to say lets nuke Chicago, DC or New York because America got rid of all its nuclear weapons.
If I was in charge id break the nuclear football and refuse to ever get nuclear codes.
