Well, it's true that the whole "brithism" and systematic opposition to Obama definitely had a "Trumpist" vibe, and was like the last warning before Trump.

Well, both Nixon and Reagan were also disastrous in their own way. I feel it has been a constant downward spiral of the GOP since Nixon applied his "southern strategy" which was just a dogwhistle to rally all the ones opposing civil rights.

Both parties declined after the Cold War ended, since then the partisanship only got worse over the year.

at least under Reagan both parties worked together and didn't see the other as the enemy. Once Clinton won the party began their obstruction and became the party of no and its only gotten worse since.

In my opinion the Clinton-era Democrats were quite bad, but Obama was slightly better than Clinton, and the current democrats tend to lean even more leftward than Obama. So while things are getting from bad to worse in the GOP, the Democrats seem to be slowly improving since the 90s. But sure they still have many flaws, especially the centrist/Biden wing of the party.

People dislike Trump because he's so real about how much of a horrible human being he is. It seems like alot of people like fakeness so they miss the politicians of old who were also crooks and murderers but pretended they weren't.

People need to realize that not-Trump =/= Good.

Here people are never removed from electoral records when they move. Only when they die, or get stuck by a "lose your voting rights" court sentence (which the judge or jury has to give in addition to normal penalty, even being sent to prison doesn't remove you from being a voter). They must do some paperwork to be moved to their new location if they wish, or to register to vote from a consulate if they move abroad, but if they don't, they always stay registered where they used to be, and if they travel there on voting day, they can vote.

Ah no, when you do register at your new place, you get removed from the old one. But you are never removed "automatically", only when you do register somewhere else.

Former Prince George's county executive Rushern Baker (D) will run for Governor of Maryland next year. Incumbent Larry Hogan (R) is term limited. If elected he would be the state's first Black governor.

Louisiana bill takes up the question of abolishing slavery

A state lawmaker said Wednesday that slavery is alive and well in Louisiana's prison system and put forward legislation that would ask voters to abolish forced labor practices for good.

House Bill 196, sponsored by Rep. Edmond Jordan, D-Brusly, proposes amending the state's Constitution to make involuntary servitude illegal in all cases. Louisiana's Constitution currently bans the practice — except when used as punishment for those convicted of a crime.

Louisiana's prisoners do all sorts of work, often for only a few cents an hour, ranging from agricultural labor at Angola — itself a former slave plantation — to janitorial work at the State Capitol and Governor's Mansion. It's unclear what the immediate impact would be of removing the so-called "slavery exception clause" from the state Constitution, but Jordan said its mere placement on the ballot would hopefully spark substantive conversations about ways to reform Louisiana's prison system.

“Anyone of good conscience should be embarrassed by this … should be appalled by this … should want to see this go away," Jordan said. "But I’m not a fool to think that everybody is of good conscience. I’m sure for as easy as a lift as this should be, that some will make up reasons to oppose it.”[...] The language in Louisiana's Constitution mirrors that of the 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, except for those convicted of a crime, when it was ratified in 1865 following the Civil War.[...]If approved by the legislature, the constitutional amendment would appear on the ballot in November 2022 and would need support from a majority of voters for approval.

Yes good. The prison industrial complex is a menace that needs to be dealt away with.

Water wars have been going for awhile. Just not like in the movies.

Remember that junk bond guy who was after all sorts of water rights saying he was going to do great things? He only wanted them for monetary value which was a like a billion something.

Even in the middle of a draught; we had Nestle still pulling water out of our declining reserves.
