I mean, I don't believe in capital punishment on principle. So what Chauvin did was especially heinous.

I have a mixed view on capital punishment. I think it should only be used if the crime is especially heinous and if it can be proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the person is guilty (think Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Charles Manson, etc.). But other than those cases, I'm opposed to it on grounds that innocent people may be wrongly executed.

So I looked up what the sentences are for the various charges against him in the state of Minnesota

Second degree manslaughter- Up to 10 years in prison, but usually serve less than 5

Third degree murder- Up to 25 years in prison and $40,000 in fines

Second degree murder- Up to 40 years in prison

If Chauvin is found guilty, there might be riots against the verdict. If Chauvin is found not guilty or if there is a mistrial, more than likely there will be riots on par with those in '92 in Los Angeles. More than likely that sentiment has been repeated time and time again, but it's best to remind you once again, knowing the verdict is coming any minute now.
