Here's where I introduce those of you who've never lived in Egypt to a useful local phrase: 'bukra, inshallah'. To which the correct response is 'malesh'.

Translated into English... 'Tomorrow, God willing'; 'no worries'.

In other words, 'soon' means 'at some indeterminate point in the next few weeks', and there's no point getting worked up about it in the interim.

Note that this principle applies across all levels of Egyptian society, and most interactions within that society. It doesn't mean that it won't get done, only that the deeply fatalistic principle that there's no point worrying about how quickly it will get done since God will decide when it does gets done is deeply embedded in the Egyptian approach to life.
