ALM- Asian Lives Matter

The coronavirus outbreak simply came out of China. And that fact has caused an alarming rise in anti-Asian rhetoric and violence in the West, especially the United States. This is highlighted by the recent murder of 8 in Atlanta, 6 of whom are Asian women.

The previous president, Donald Trump, and his supporters frequently referred to it as “Kung flu” and “China Virus”. Asian Americans have been pushed and beaten in the streets in connection with blame for the virus. Due to the inability of many to tell different Asians apart: Korean, Japanese, Filipino, and Vietnamese people have also been targeted. The rate is much higher than reported: immigrants are less likely to report hate crimes against them out of distrust.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Pacific, Chinese people are targeting another racial group: black people.
Black people in China report increasing discrimination in relation to the pandemic. Many Chinese people blame them for the huge amount of cases they had early on that spread across the world. When Chinese officials enacted an order to make sure all foreigners didn’t have the virus, in practice, they only targeted Africans.

This pandemic is creating a cycle of hate across the world that isn’t going to go away even when the pandemic ends.

In my opinion, you make too many threads on subjects that are too similar. Not a mod, just my opinion that the forum is losing interest in the many ways that non-Muslims are mean to Muslims.

Fewer, longer threads, will do more to raise consciousness on your issues.

I think 6 people shot for their race as part of a rising trend of hate is pretty significant. That being said, someone already made a thread relating more specifically to the hate crime murders in Atlanta that I’m waiting for the mods to merge this with.

Racism against non-Han Chinese people in China didn't begin with the pandemic. Bigotry in China is widespread, nationalists call white people "pigs" and black people "monkeys". The nationalist rhetoric promoted by the CCP has only made things worse when it comes to racial discrimination in China.

I have read a lot on it, and I’m treating it the same way I’m treating it when a very Islamophobic dude shot three Muslims nearby where I live and claimed it was over a parking dispute, causing the police to treat it as such.

He was gay. He shot thr place up for "what happened in Afghanistan ", not cause the people who were there that night were Latinos. If we treated this as discrimination against the hispanic community we would be going after the wrong target.

This is also an example, and I’d gladly include it, but I’m not backing down from the suspect’ racist motivations for a couple reasons:
1. Context: the dude killed mostly Asians and he did it now
2. According to some unconfirmed reports, he yelled “Kill all the Asians”.
3. His targeting of Asian people comes from racist stereotypes.
